    HI

Is anyone building UK airports and if so are you building EGGP, Reason for asking is I plan to build this and want to avoid any waste of my time.

Might also be a good idea if we had a post where anyone mad enough to build airports could advise other potential builders. FS 2 is short of world wide airports so lets not duplicate our work.

    All the bset

    Hi everyone

Some pics of my work so far

Liverpool Airport (EGGP) progresses at pace, well, a slow pace really. I didn't anticipate just how much work goes into an airport scenery. Texture mapping is very very time consuming.

Runway, taxiways with 3d lights are done (blue and green lit at night, stop lights to follow), aprons are marked out though would like to add some grime to them, taxiway signs, stop signs etc

Most buildings are modeled just need textures, then onto support equipment, vehicles and the list goes on, oh yeah, planting a few hundred trees, groan

Big thanks to the IPAC's team for a fantastic sim

Still plodding on with my airport, slow progress as every object has to be built and textured, groan :(

TNT delivery site and general aviation populated with 3d objects, starting on the main terminal areas now

May have to reduce the number of static aircraft as I'm already touching 600,000 polygons. My static aircraft are from previous projects and were built and animated for FSX/P3D. Far too much work involved to remake them so I'll see if I can crash FS2 :S

If any developers read this, is there any way of moving round a scene without having to taxi everywhere, I can't believe thats what you guys do, maybe some way of slewing like FSX/P3D. Nice though your aircraft are it does get a little tedious ;)

    Hi Ed

Yep it will be available eventually if it accepted by IPACS. Without any other UK airports it might only be suitable for touch and goes ;(

    Steve

Seems like IPACS wishes to get the Key West scenery out first, then look at user sceneries for acceptance so you probably have some time for completion.

A lot of folks have been asking for some sort of slew program. FSWidgets, that did the first 3rd party addon with the maps, has an excellent SLEW program that I think is superior to all others. Wish IPACS would take a look at it.

Meanwhile, I added a look down camera location at various heights and when coupled with the angle of attack of the plane and the hat switch you can pause the game and use the zoom and hat switch to get a real good look at your work.

i can offer a runway, tower and lots of cultivation for Blackpool if you want a very short flight and/or i have one of the runways on Walney Island (BAE Systems + gliding club private airfield in South Lake District). Hardly of the quality for an Ipacs download though. I wonder if people are interested in work-in-progress or B grade airfields...something better than nothing?

    Hi you UK flyers

EGGP had been with APACS for 2 weeks now awaiting evaluation, so just a heads up it may one day appear.

Already hard at work on Leeds Bradford, at least we can then do a round robin :)

    Hi UK lovers

I uploaded some new files to Jeff on Friday with some updated textures for the apron grime/tarmac bays etc so I guess we may be able to try this airport out fairly soon. Some screen grabs to whet the appetite.

Also Leeds Bradford progresses, ignore the tower blocks they are simple to help with setting up the scenery

    All the best

Nice work so far. The static airplanes don't cast a shadow. Either you are using low graphic settings or your static aircraft are treated as transparent objects. If thats the case, check you source textures for an alpha channel.

    HI

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

All static aircraft do indeed cast shadows. I think its purely a trick of the light (pardon the pun), EGGP likes directly east west so the sun can cause shadows to appear short. I also noticed the specular on the taxiways appears very strong in the morning and evening as the taxiways line up directly with the rising/setting sun, I even deleted the specular textures but it still seems to shine through.
