Switzerland - Straight to a mountain

  • Yes. So...? If you don't want to fly straight into a mountain you will have to edit the plan: AFS2 only creates a very basic plan from A to an automated FAF and B. (Unfortunately you cannot change that automated FAF so if that one is also in a mountain, which may happen, you have to manually steer the plane around it.)

Thanks for the reply J, I thought the game gives you reliable flight plans .. any websites/softwares give real flight plans so I can use them ingame?

  • Skyvector is very good, if you do a plan including a cruise height you can select routes and recent real life detailed plans become available. It does not work well in Android but is great in PC or iOS. A sensible plan can be copied into Aerofly, you will need to select heights manually but that is easy with Skyvector open in an iPad. You can arrive at an appropriate height and distance out and the ILS will be alive for your manual or auto approach.

  • @AlRayes_BRN, you want to decide on whether you fly VFR, IFR or military when in Switzerland,

Terrain and Weather would be a good base for you to decide, how to get to your destination,

and by that you design a flight plan. Hopefully around a mountain, not into it.

Obviously aerofly's flight planner does not cover the real conditions like terrain height.

A flight plan still is a plan only, it is created in your mind,

and it includes departure point, destination and how to get there. IFR is completely different to VFR.

the how to get there is the most cruitial thing, as it defines the waypoints considering the obstacles like mountains, weather, and coliding objects.

you may also consider the must follow rules of swiss airspace management, that guides you via precise navigation points (radio or visuals)

in order to stay off conflicts or accidents.

use your eyes, maps and instruments to get to your destination. And do your flight in mind before in real or in the sim.

  • Despite all the nice tips flight planning isn't one of the best points of Aerofly FS 2... The planner is very basic, you can't import anything from other sources and the fixed FAF is a problem. Hopefully all of this will be improved when we get ATC.

  • Once they move to real world nav database, you will be able to plan a flight using real world departure procedures. The way points from the real world are missing. When departing and arriving mountainous terrain in aerofly, you have to be visual. Once they use a nav data base, you can use departure routes and only worry about being at way points at minimum altitudes.
