My private airport just went live. Maybe a little overloaded with 3d objects but it is the only one in my hometown and its mine.

  • Using everything at my disposal - freely provided by Rodeo and DaveW - I have created from scratch a private airport to handle my Learjet flights (special custom paint by GAC Savannah). I started with some FSET high definition scenery of my hometown in Mississippi, then used Google Maps to zero in on some potential locations for a 5,000 foot private runway.

I selected a power line right-of-way that was about a mile and a half long and laid a runway down, added a custom decal with the proper markings (using Rodeo's Runway tutorial and some additional help) then added just about everything in DaveW's Objects Library and whatever else I could find.

My next step will be to add Cultivation features like a few housing subdivisions at the end of the runway, light them up for some great night flying and start looking for some large lumps of 3d objects to improve the town. Like some water towers, antennas, gas stations, factories, schools, hotels, casinos, etc.

I am just about as happy as a pig in mud as my mother used to say. :P

    Check it out.

  • Great runway, but rough taxiways I should say!

    :)

True true. I need a ramp on each end with a few connectors. I can use the main runway for a taxiway from one end to the other. After all, its private and its mine to do with whatever I can come up with.

Hey Michael, I now have AC3D so could I interest you in a special graphics project? We have two Choctaw Indian casinos about 5 miles out of town. The Golden Moon has a super wierd design with a Disney looking golf ball hanging over the edge, the Silver Star is more traditional with the two connected by a covered people mover over the highway between them.

Some sort of low resolution, not too detailed, designs would add so much to the neighborhood when flying in to see me. Here are the teaser photos. (jeff, this are legit, no copyrights to be concerned about)

    Ray

  • Ray, how about this, send me the coordinates of this casino and i'll model it for you> I use 3DS Max though not AC3D. Give me a little bit of time since i'm still modeling my airports for the Florida Keys project but I'll shoehorn it in for you if you are interested.

    I'm just a cook, I don't own the restaurant.
On behalf of Torsten, Marc, and the rest of the IPACS team, we would all like to thank you for your continued support.

Wow. What a deal. Full info in your email. For users that may be interested in following this project, the location is N 32.77° W 89.21° in the backwoods of Mississippi.

  • The golden moon really stands out at night. This complex was built by a local builder in a town of 5,000 in the piney woods. Amazing.

    Ray

  • You are inspiring me Ray. I'm on the verge of jumping in (the mud) and getting a copy of AC3D to build my own airfield too. Geoconvert was nice (more mesh detail please IPACS) but this cultivation is taking it to a new level. Only thing is... is Blender support about to happen? I don't have either, but one it is supported i wonder if the majority of posts/tutorials will be be based on Blender.

  • Ray,

It is time for me to follow in your footsteps and build my local airfield. I am about to buy AC3D. Can you paste some links to the tutorials you used? Everything i find is 3DS Max.

  • Best news I have heard since the Colorado announcement.

Rodeo is my mentor for tutorials. The AC3D forum or home site has the tutorial links but they were too advanced for me. Dave W. has layed the ground work for objects and has placed a lot of them in the AF2 download area.

14 day free trial is standard for AC3D.

  • I agree. I prefer to look at something that is working then evolve it towards what I want and I wouldn't know which AC3D tutorial to start with. So, we're talking about:

    1. Geoconvert with FSET for photo scenery - Fine happy with that. Link here for anyone starting from zero. Having said that we could use an easy tutorial in the wiki built around Geoconvert helper. Here's a link to the relevant thread
    2. Dave's models for 3D buildings - From here
    3. Runway tutorial. I can find stuff about lighting but not any asphalt ?
  • UPDATE

I moved over to our original hometown airport and gave it a facelift with some new and additional hangars and ramps. While at it I gave the entire little town a makeover with some cultivation type houses and lots of buildings scattered around. I went out to our Choctaw Indian casino complex and added a ton of new stuff. It sure looks different. FSET and 3d objects make a world of difference.
