Let's make an Aircraft

Hi, Jan
I think you can remove the second RPM indicator. Also, for me it looks like there is no need to have 2 VS indicators. What if you replace the "mechanical" one with an AH?

Remember the Garmin unit is yet to be coded. Some of that stuff might never see the light of day. I might be a lot easier to use standard and available gauges in lieu of coding from scratch inside a Garmin unit.

What is an AH?

Ah, thank you. I forgot this, sorry

artificial horizon
Thanks. I would go with a Turn and Bank with a 2 min turn vs an Artificial Horizon. I wouldn't expect to be making many IFR approaches in a cub. The AP for me is so I can look around when I'm close to nature.

This thing is VFR only, doesn't need an artificial horizon. Also the garmin has a turn indicator, so we don't really need another one.
I know the rpms might be doubled but I like the old "steam" gauge and the new fuel indication.
The garmin is not programmed yet but the point is that I can program it for the extra and then just put it in the carbon cub as well. I know a certain extra pilot would be very happy to hear about this He wants me to program the garmin device and I see his point, it should be in there.

This would be my favorite so far...
of course we could swap devices with the same diameter...
By the way, I'm not sure if my dimensions of the garmin in the center are actually correct. But there is still room for expansion, since I didn't use the full height. Maybe that nice label at the bottom (which I slightly modified) should be moved or removed.

I have a slight concern that the autopilot needs an additional circuit breaker panel and a switch for the servos, as can be seen on the default executive panels.
And I also don't know if it would be realistic to put some form of flight mode annunciator into the garmin panel that I used. But maybe thats not a problem, I could just use half of the executive panel, including the attitude indicator, airspeed tape and angle of attack indicator, altitude tape and HSI rose.

Jan,
I like the last. It looks like it came from the factory.
That placard about “spins prohibited, read the manual, blah, blah, blah” is required on the real one.
It is a lot like those big labels on the power cord for heaters that say Not for use underwater, or Do Not put babies in the microwave for drying.
After a while we get immune to them.
I am by the 2-min Turn Indicator like you are with the big tach. Both are expected in a plane line this.

Jay has been fairly quiet with comments about the panel layout and content. I think he may be the one that makes the final recommendation. 😏
I am still amazed at the progress made to date in both the 3D model and the panel design. Seats and sticks next?

Hi Ray,
Nr 8 or number 7?

Hi Ray,
Nr 8 or number 7?
Now that is a tough choice. I like them both, but, no 8 looks a little more symmetrical. Either one would be a great panel for the flight sim.

I like how the magneto switch sits at a good position in #8. its a bit tight on the right though, maybe moving the transponder left a bit and the turn indicator up (move the ignition stuff somewhere else) and the autopilot a tiny bit down - could free the autopilot a bit which would look better.
But its totally doable to fit all that in and I think it still looks decent. And thats even the small VFR panel
Edit: oh no, I forgot the circuit breaker and switch for the autopilot - that could fit up top still, think we're good.

I hate to throw a wrinkle in it especially because I’m a newbie to this thread, but even a Cessna 172 has an artificial horizon so that you can carefully do a 30° or 40° bank or pitch up 10° or keep yourself straight and level if you erroneously find yourself in a cloud or you want to fly at night.

After looking at this last group, I think if I were flying, I would tend to go for number #4. This has the gauges more in my face for quick glances si I can spend more time looking around outside.
I also like the nav/com high on the left.
I would switch the Vertical Speed with the Tach. No special reason other than the Tach is next to the engine monitor for cross checking and the VSI is the first indicator for vertical movement. If I got in trouble, like flying into a cloud, I think I could control the plane easier with these 3 gauges grouped together.
I like the airspeed high on the left and the Altimeter high on the right.
