AeroScenery Beta - Help With Testing Required

  • What to do? Aeroscenery problem or Geoconvert?

See the settings page screenshot I posted previously. You need to make sure "Write Images With Mask" is set to "Yes". AID and TMC files have to regenerated after you change that.

The correct way to edit transparency is to load up the PNG file and erase parts of the image so you see the "checkerboard" background of the image editor. Save the PNG. Don't create a separate mask file.

    Num Level : 1 of 1... Curent level : 14 ...Num tiles : 2 of 2

    puis :

    Num level : 1 of 1 ...Curent level : 14 ...

  • Hi Nick

AeroScenery continues downloading after the loss of the internet connection.

Some of us have to get by with flaky wireless broadband internet providers. The signal will drop out intermittently (more frequent on windy days).

I simulated this by manually disabling the ethernet adapter after AeroScenery started the download phase. The progress bars continued to 100%. The partially downloaded tiles were stitched and geoconverted.

There are entries in the log file indicating errors on all download requests following the loss of connection, but the incomplete tile shows as downloaded in the map view. If there were more than one tile in the download it is difficult to work backwards from the error entry to which tile or tiles have download problems.

I cannot think of any scenario where a partially downloaded tile is useful.

There several ways to handle this scenario that would be easier to manage

    • hard stop on connection fail.
    • (better) leave partially downloaded tiles with status of "Not Downloaded" (assuming some tiles may have downloaded completely)
    • (even better) a pause and restart on reestablishing a connection (as FSET does).

    thanks

  • GeoConvert has a bug that for small areas (level 13 & 14) it can round coordinates "outwards" and so creates more squares than you wanted. Sometimes you end up with 5 squares: the one you wanted, plus the 4 surrounding ones.

Remember that GeoConvert is an IPACS application and I have no control over it.

The setting "Shrink TMC grid squares" (previous screenshot) tries workaround this GeoConvert issue by "pulling in" the area coordinates a bit. This often works OK.

However, AeroScenery 0.6 is has a problem with non English language PCs for that setting. That will be fixed in 0.7 / 1.0 (should be released early November)

In the meantime, you could either

    - Work on level 9 grid squares where the problem will be less pronounced or non-existent

    - Use an English language PC (period for decimal separator)

    - Shrink the coordinates in yourself by editing the TMC files directly

    https://www.aerofly.com/dokuwiki/doku.…enery_creation4

    However,

With what you have (the extra files), just copy the intended files only to the Aerofly directly.

e.g. map_14_869c_a1e4 folder, only copy the map_14_869c_a1e4 ttc file and mask file to the Aerofly folder.

If you converted 3 tiles, only copy 3 ttc files, plus up to 3 mask ttc files.

Let's see the results of that.

AeroScenery continues downloading after the loss of the internet connection.

Good point, not something that I'd really though about to be honest as my connection is always stable.

I've added an issue to remind me to look at this

    https://github.com/nickhod/aeroscenery/issues/3

AeroScenery - Easily create photoreal scenery for Aerofly

  • eh no! pity ...

Based on what you had before please see these instructions..

What you have there seems to be the "over spill" of a different grid square.

You can use the raw file directory to help see what's being generated and check it against the map.

Based on what you see in the raw files directory, only copy over the correct ttc files to Aerofly.

Other than that I'm not sure. Maybe wait until AeroScenery 1.0 is out?

AeroScenery - Easily create photoreal scenery for Aerofly

  • I'm confused, you said you only checked "download" and "stitch", so you will get a level 9 tiles divided as stitched files.

Running GeoConvert as a second step, after editing, will produce the level 9 - 14 ttc files.

AeroScenery - Easily create photoreal scenery for Aerofly

  • Ok merci.

    CPU Intel Core I7 6700 K @4.00 Ghz + BiQuiet Pure Rock - CM Asusteck MAXIMUS VIII RANGER - RAM GSkill Ripjaws4 DDR4 3000 16 GB - NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB - 2x SSD Samsung 500 GB 850 EVO - DD WD 2 TO.

  • OK, thanks.

since I only have the level 9 tiles ... I can do the touch-ups ... then restart with Generate AID / TMC tiles and Run GeoConvert

but then if he makes the files in 11,12,13,14 these will be retouched again or Geoconvert will have used my retouched files and the new levels will have adapted high-fonts so ready too in ttc files?

    Am I clear enough?

The files that you edit in the stitched folder will be used by GeoConvert to produce all levels of ttc files: 9 through to 14.

    Premier fichier "stitched" b_17_stich-2-8.png.

Ouvert dans PhotoFiltre X ... Ok

the GitHub layout is not entirely obvious

Up in Nick's post #431 in this thread there is a link to Aersoscenery GitHub page

Above the green line there is an unassuming "6 releases" entry.

clicking that will get you to the download for an installer package.

  • I've installed AeroScenery and had a brief play with it. It's great and certainly a lot better than the old FSET method. One thing puzzles me however ..... I selected a Level 13 area to download, but geoconvert has only produced 4 level 14 tiles and 8 level 15 tiles. Surely it should give me 16 level 15 tiles?

    Any thoughts?

  • Make sure you understand the AeroScenery levels are not the same as FSET levels. You have only 3 sizes of grids - 9 large, small and smaller. With the Large Grid 9 I doubt you would ever want anything larger than level 14, and maybe not even 15 due to the enormous number of tiles generated.

    Regards,

    Ray

Play with the slider for Image Detail (Zoom Level) If you select level 18 or 19 or 20 with a grid square Level 13 (Small) and then check mark level 14 and 15, you should get something of higher detail than anything you have ever seen in AFS2.

    Regards,

    Ray

  • HI Ray

You say the levels are not the same in AeroScenery and Aerofly - but I would have thought the end product (i.e. the tiles) is the same? In which case there should be 16 level 15 tiles in one level 13 tile (and not 8).

EDIT: I've just tried selecting a level 14 area (the smallest) and now I do get the right number of tiles - viz 1x level 14 and 4x level 15 - which is reassuring.

    Cheers

    Ian
