It’s here: 2080 Ti VS 1080 on Pimax 5K+!

  • Just got ZOTAC RTX 2080Ti Gaming. This is an overclockable version, but I am now using just the default frequency.

    A quick test on Aerofly FS 2, Orbx TrueEarth Netherland, Amsterdam Intl Airport, Runway 6. This is the most demanding DLC of FS 2. All graphics maxed out.

    My computer is I7 4790K@4.2, 32g. The older video card is Asus GTX 1080 Strix.

    The first two test results:

    PiTool 1.5 SteamVR SS 40% 1080: 36 2080Ti: 48

    PiTool 2.0 SteamVR SS 40% 1080: 30 2080Ti: 42

    The results are just as I have imagined. It's a reasonable step up for my current system. I think my aged I7 4790K and DDR3 memory are the bottleneck. I am pretty sure it will see substantial increase with Intel 8700K and the upcoming 9900K.

  • Thanks mate for this interesting information, it is a topic that worries me, I use virtual reality a lot.

    My leisure time in vr is distributed 50% in the wonderful Aerofly Fs 2 and the other 50% is the Dcs World for the helicopters.

    When Aerofly has the R22, it will be 100%, hahahaha.

    I think your system is doing a bottleneck with that I7 4000 series.

    Personally I have a big question, my current system is an I7 7700k oc, 32 Gb. Ram 2133 hz and Titan Xp.

    I am thinking of selling the Titan Xp and buy the Rtx 2080TI, really I will win improvement in frames ???.

    That improvement how much will it be ???

    5% ??, 10% ??, 20% ??, 30% ?? ....

    Someone can clarify it.

  • I've just gone from a 1070 to a 2080 and gained about 50% fps on average in the likes of AFS2, Project CARS2. However, those game engines like X-Plane and DCS, that don't fully use current CPUs properly aren't giving anything spectacular. I haven't tested much DCS yet, but XP11 sits at about 40% cpu/gpu usage and just looks at me refusing to work any harder. I get about 45fps using Flyinside and 32fps using native VR (I was on about 26fps in native VR on the 1070). DCS now gives a nice smooth 45fps where before I was dipping below that. For me on a 1070 the 2080 has been a decent upgrade, but from a Titan I don't think you would see a big difference for the cost personally.

  • Thank you very much for sharing your personal data, they are really interesting for me, I have great doubts about what to do, I do not know if I sell my Titan Xp.

    I have personally put a barrier to get rid of my Titan Xp, I would like to achieve an improvement in fps of at least 20/30% to make the jump to an Rtx 2080TI.

    It is difficult to find any user who can comment on the jump of the Titan Xp to the 2080TI, but if it can be easier for someone to talk about the gain of the Gtx 1080TI to the Rtx 2080TI, that information would be useful as concerning.

    I know I have to add an additional performance of 7/10% more to a 1080TI to know the reference point of the Titan Xp.

    If any friend wants to add more experiences to this post, I would be very grateful.

  • Thanks for the information. Like you said, it will be interesting to see when the 9900K is released if their is a bottleneck. I have a 1080ti now and will have to see quite a gain to make the switch.

  • Yes, but very honest, the best test i have seen so far about the pimax vr headsets. There are three players in the VR world whose development must go hand in hand: headsets - graphic cards - software (games).

    My friend, a suggestion, it would be a great test for you and for all of us, that you install your rtx 2080TI on a computer with an I7 6700K , I7 7700K, I7 8700K processor and then test the aerofly fs2, with the same configuration and same scenarios.

    On the pc of a friend, a relative, a neighbor, a co-worker ?????

    Would it be possible ???

    What AFS2 graphic settings are you using,

    what results do you get with Oculus or Vive,

    Are you enabling reprojection? - why are the rates (36 and 48) not 45fps exactly at least most of the time?

    What is the quality of the image vs the Oculus or Vive - what FOV setting are you using.

    Maybe the Steam VR software can't really handle the Pimax??

  • Not an aerofly review, but perhaps the settings may provide some clue to getting better performance overall.

  • Trouble is with DCS and the established flight sims, that they just don't make full use of our hardware, so you sit at 30% usage on cpu/gpu while seeing 35fps in VR. Almost nothing is running at 100%. This is what puts AFS2 above the others in terms of performance in that it actually uses the hardware properly.
