    Overview:

A classic Orbx destination developed by Jarrad Marshall, Palm Springs has been brought to life for IPACS Aerofly FS 2!

With one of the most dramatically scenic backdrops in the United States, Palm Springs is a resort city situated 100 miles east of Los Angeles in Southern California. Explore the resort cities of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, Indian Wells, Thousand Palms, Palm Desert and Desert Hot Springs, the high-altitude alpine wonderland of San Jacinto Peak, the windswept wastelands of the San Gorgonio Pass and the harsh beauty of the Coachella Valley desert. Famous during the 50's and 60's as the playground of Hollywood elite, Palm Springs is home to some of finest examples of mid-century Modernist architecture in the world; many examples of which can be found in this scenery. From the vast wind turbine farms, to the impressive 6000ft Aerial Tramway, from the modern skyscrapers of the Reservation Casinos to the retro chic of City Hall, there are literally dozens of interesting landmarks and features to explore. In preparation for the upcoming R22 helicopter, test your skills landing on the precarious helipads atop the Aerial Tramway, or keep your hand-flying skills up to date with low-level F-15 sorties along the western edges of Joshua Tree National Park.

As for airport itself; this field is genuinely suited for all types of flyers - from the heaviest jetliners, through corporate types and even low-and-slow GA flyers, Palm Springs is the perfect destination. Served by most US and Canadian mainline airlines to destinations across North America, the airport is famous for it's unique "outdoor terminal" - wander around the highly-detailed terminal grounds. If that is not enough, be sure to visit the Palm Springs Aviation Museum; many types operated by the US Navy are open for viewing. Optimised for performance, a huge coverage area, beautiful runway approaches for all types of aviators and extraordinary detail around the airport, Palm Springs is your perfect base of operations for Southern California. Far more than just an airport!

    I'm just a cook, I don't own the restaurant.
On behalf of Torsten, Marc, and the rest of the IPACS team, we would all like to thank you for your continued support.

  • More great work from ORBX - hopefully something from IPACS soon!

We do have more scenery coming soon :) We are also finishing up the R22 which will also be coming your way shortly.

The R22 just needed some final touches but we are still on schedule.

That's really cheerful, I was afraid there won't be more IPACS scenery but only orbx in the future. To be honest, I prefer IPACS's regions than orbx's(specifically speaking: netherlands trueearth). Although IPACS don't place buildings and vegetations as accurately as orbx does, but they provide much much better airports. Shouldn't airports be spent the most work to build in a flight simulator scenery? It's an incredible scenery but I rarely fly in netherlands in aerofly because of the airports. Hoping British and PNW trueearth can improve a bit.

To make all 40+ airports in a region (500+ in the UK) to the quality of handmade individual airports isn't possible for a price most people would pay. I'm sure they will improve though after this first region release. Do you have a list of what you'd most like to see?

Unless Orbx changes their game plan, I doubt you will not be getting anything approaching high level airports as part of the regional scenery packs. This is based on their history with the West Coast USA scenery regions and individual airports. Both are excellent products but, I don’t expect them to mix them up, They have not spent a lot of time upgrading the airports to anything higher than a basically level, but they are usually some improvements and all are useable. A few of the smaller airports may have received a few extra touches by a few individuals, but nothing approaching stand alone level.

I do think Orbx needs to hear our wishes in order to fine tune the future products. As Spit40 stated above, there are just too many airports to expect very much attention and still be able to keep the price at a reasonable level for a region.

Maybe Orbx will adopt the method of releasing free upgrades to suggested airports for AFS2 similar to their Global Airports program. If so, be ready with your suggestions.

    Regards,

    Ray

Well, I can understand why orbx do in this way and I'm always very willing to buy their individual airports. But as an airliner lover, I never expect them to build Schipol or Heathrow as a single product because such large airports are too expensive to build. Maybe I should just fly these airports in X-Plane.:/

In fact I'm not quite interested in other airports in netherlands except schipol but if one day orbx release an upgraded airport in NL, I'll still buy it. In addition, I find most people prefer flying between regional airports or even grassfield with samll airplanes. So maybe I should just get adapted to common flavor.;)

Besides, it's interesting that IPACS find a perfect balance in building these large airports. Either JFK, Miami intl. or many other international airports are built in good quality, not as detailed as innsbruck, of course, but way better than those in NL. Sometimes I'm happy to sacrifice scenery quality for airport details but that's definitely not orbx's style. And that's why I prefer IPACS scenery.

But in all, I appraciated what both IPACS and orbx have done so far.:)

    Exactly.
