So sorry if this has been addressed earlier, I did a search and didn’t come up with anything pertinent. (It might be user error)

I just purchased FS2 via steam and is a 7 or 8 hour download time typical??? Is there a download manager I may have missed somewhere on Steam?

    Many Thanks

The download speed depends on your internet provider and the Steam servers, both of which we can't affect from here :)

Just let it run overnight or pause the download, shut down the computer and then resume it later.

If you compare it to shipping the DVDs.... well 8 hours is not that long, is it :D

    Regards,

    Jan

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Went to bed, got up and there it was. I was afraid it was like a windows update and would hang forever ;)

Where can I get the DVDs? My service provider is slow and unreliable.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm a pilot with a glider rating, not a gamer. Aerofly is the best sailplane fs I've seen.

Hi, do you mean that there are thermals in the game that make flying a glider a realistic experience or are you talking about the visuals and controls on the model?

The 29 is modelled well. Thermals on the other hand, are 'not very' realistic compared to the one specific glider sim on the market.

Just the feeling I get from watching youtube videos. The sound of wind rushing over the canopy, sounds of the airframe creaking, shadows moving across the instrument panel. Visuals and sounds that recall past flights.

FS2 ridge lift works for me, is that what is used In real life in the cold?, are there thermals in an overcast northern European winter?

I’m too heavy for gliders in my old age<X

Aerofly is great, and for choppers (R22) it's Aerofly hands down. but for best VR glider sim, check out Condor2. From a fellow glider rated guy.

Ridge lift is modelled allright, but also not great. In real life ridge lift is also unpredictable and sometime unstable. In Aerofly this is too simplified (as far as I know, because since Condor came out with VR, I've never flown gliders in Aerofly anymore) So to say that AFS2 is the best sailplane FS, then you've never seen Condor2. Don't get me wrong, I still love Aerofly, but only motorised flight. In my case flying the Robin or the Falke for (procedural) training purposes. For flying gliders there is no sensible alternative to Condor2.
