    Hello Ken,

I just downloaded and installed your new Towers package. Wow, this makes a great addition to the already great South Florida scenery DLC. The towers look like they should have been there all along. Thanks for all the creative and hard work preparing all these lighted towers. Much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Ray

Hey Ken, the alternating green and white tower lights are a neat addition. I like that.

Do you have a list of the different towers and locations? We can ago tower hunting now.

    Regards,

    Ray

Ray, regarding the tower locations, I used vfrmap.com as my source so look for the tower symbols on those charts. You can also browse the SouthFloridaTL.tsc file as the towers are labeled.

    Thanks Jake and Ken.

    Regards,

    Ray

The South Florida TL add-on includes the following:

    • 9 flashing airport tower beacons (green-white)
    • 109 accurately placed radio towers (actual heights adjusted to 100m increments)
    • 7,000 traffic lights (red-green)
    • 32 tall building obstruction lights

Quite an improvement. Will encourage more night flying in South Florida. Thanks guys. :)

    Regards,

    Ray

    Ken,

Would it be OK for me to try to add some of these towers using your tower package? Maybe create a new one and pattern it after yours? If so, I think I will start with those really tall ones just north of Willis Gliderport.

    Regards,

    Ray

    Give it a try Ray!

    1) find the towers in vfrmap.com

    2) go to Google Maps and zoom in to get the lon/lat coordinates of the base of each tower

    3) edit the tsc file to update the main lon/lat (pick a point in the center of the area where you'll be adding towers)

    4) edit the tsc file tower object reference to change the lon/lat to match your tower base coordinates (pick the tower object with the approx height match)

    5) edit the towers.toc file (tower lights file) and change the lon/lat info for each light reference for each tower (500m towers have 5 lights, 400m have 4, etc)

There are two 100m towers in the files - 100m & 100mv2 , the v2 is the red & white version, the other one is the steel tower with the wide base and a couple of microwave dishes on it.

    Thanks Jeff!

After several tower experiments, I realized the OSM tower data wasn't accurate enough or had duplicates and ScenProc towers couldn't be seen from long distances so when Jake (ZoSoChile) offered up some nice 3D tower objects, I figured I now had a decent shot at an IPACS-quality add-on as long as I hand-placed each of the towers using the vfrmap.com + Google Maps approach.

Thanks Ken and Jake. I have the tall towers in place up near West Palm Beach. They are daylight only for now, but big improvement already. I hope those gliders see them in time to avoid them. :P

    Hi Ken

Your South Florida TL add-on looks great. I can't seem to get the download from Flight-sim.org. Can this download be found at another site.

    Thanks

    Tony G.

Tony, you need to login to flight-sim.org to get the download option. It's not on another site.

    Ken,

Great job on the South Florida TL add-on! I am totally enjoying the work you put into it. It certainly contributes to the immersion factor and, I would say, adds a little bit of that very much need "life out there" feel to the sim at night.

Thanks from one appreciative simmer

Updated the TL add-on to work with the 3/22/19 FS2 Beta release and added changing red/green traffic lights to go along with the animated road traffic in South Florida!
