Hi,
using free USGS images there is an area of about 450 x 150 sqkm available. Location is Washington North with a basic scenery level of 9 and 11.
Currently you can find 2 airport packages, starring KOMK Omak and Whidbey Island with 4 airports at levels 12-14.
Building cultivation has been done up with Microsoft's USBuildingFootprints, with scenProc some hundred thousand trees could be planted.

This is really great, thanks so much Rodeo for sharing your work! I have been enjoying WaN and Omak so these added projects are a real treat.
Another interesting airport is S10 Lake Chelan, 70 km SW of Omak.
The runway is close to a slope on one side, close to a hill on the other side.
As a special feature you can visit the Wells Dam of the Columbia River.

Question - is there a way we users can easily use USGS data to create our own scenery areas, perhaps with a higher zoom level (But more hard drive space?)

please check my included PDF file to find a description and all the links you need.
A short description of this workflow:
Start the nationalmap viewer and define your area.
Search for imagery NAIP and save the list as a text file.
Load this textfile as batch into the USGS uget download manager to download the jp2 images.
Copy the text file and modify the content to download also the related XML files with uget.
Convert the jp2 to TIF.
Use aid_create to create the coordinate files for aerofly.
Run geoconvert.
Ok, I know, doesn't sound like an easy workflow for everybody.
This might be the reason, we don't have more USGS coverage.
But I hope for Nick Hods great aeroscenery tool to work on USGS data as well some time.

S10 is interesting as it was the first airport area built by Microsoft that contained phot ground textures. They didn't advertise it, but it was there if you looked for it. Forget which version it was....FS98 possibly?

Interesting. Lake Chelan is a very scenic place. I remember being impressed with the number of trees on the golf course and along the edge of the lake.

There is a pretty good episode of 'Treehouse Masters' where they built a beautiful treehouse there.
I had FS98 as well, but don't remember this airport. Thanks for this story.

I always look forward to a new Rodeo airport area. It is not just at airport, it is a comprehensive airport design with detailed ramps and taxiways and unique runway decals. In the case of Grand Coulee, it comes with a super detailed reproduction of the hydroelectric concrete gravity dam on the Columbia River.
It almost looks real, doesn't it.

Brewster, Washington is not far away. There are so many helis. Perhaps worth for another scenery?
1. Judicious use of attitude, airspeed, and speed brake with wind in your face and one can land almost anyplace - no wheel brakes needed. Takeoffs with afterburner is a cinch. Love the sound of the burners.
2. Yep, Anderson Field is a natural for WaN. Most of those choppers are true antiques but a few newer med evac models are mixed in with them. Most folks don't even remember the Sikorsky S-58 or the little Hiller. The Huey should be familiar, maybe not a blue one, but . . .
Would you believe they use these helicopters to hover over the cherry trees to dry the fruit so they can be harvested at the best time for shipment to Walmart? Creative use of old choppers. This is seasonal work, so I have no idea where they go or what they do when not drying the cherries.
3. Please add Brewster (Anderson Field) to the todo list.

I added Brewster to my personal playground just after you first released Omak. Look how scenic the west approach is. Just imagine what you could do with this airport scenery. It could be one of the true classics.

Flying the F-15E Strike Eagle at treetop level along the river between Lake Chelan and Brewster is loads of fun. Actually Bubba, my wizzo in the backseat, may have said it best - "I haven't had so much since the day the hogs ate my little sister" (Whatever that means!)

The second snapshot is the small river town of Pateros (population 650) on the west bank of the Columbia River. A mile or two up river (or down river) from Brewster on Highway 97 toward Chelan Falls. Pateros would be a wonderful start for an approach to Brewster airport.
