We are currently in Beta testing, if we don't encounter any major issues, we will release aerofly RC 8 as soon as possible.
-
Thanks for the quick reply. That's good news.

If you need any beta testers I would love to contribute. I use a FrSky QX7s and Playstation 4 controller. My main interest is in simulating the Mavic 2 Pro but I love all of the flight models. You have done an outstanding job.
I am also interested in creation tools on the Mac with Cinema 4D as the origin app.

If that's possible, I'd also like to join the beta testing for Aerofly RC 8 for Mac. Any update on the progress for Mac?

Cannot wait a Mac version!

We hope to release aerofly RC 8 within the next 1-2 weeks if Apple approves it, but this is usually not in our hands.

That is good to hear, and quite fast!

I am literally checking several times a day.
I love your product.

We are currently waiting for Apple to review Aerofly RC 8. Unfortunately they had questions what Aerofly RC 8 actually is, it's quite a non standard App for the Mac App Store.

For the ones waiting for a Mac release. I can currently see RC 8 in the App Store.

Mac version of RC8 is very disappointing
Looks like it's based on the FS2 code and has the same tearing and stuttering in the display.
Even at Low & 50% settings the display is not smooth - unlike RC7 which is super smooth even at Ultra 70% on my Mac.
FPS counter shows a solid 60 frames.
This is on an iMac Pro with 32GB Ram and Vega 56 GPU - it should really not have these issues.
At the price being charged this is pretty poor (IMHO).

@philmoz: The rendering speed of Aerofly RC 8 should be much faster compared to RC 7 as we are using Metal API for rendering. Can you let us know if you have solid 60 FPS or do you observe some FPS drops? Is there a difference in the 'smoothness' when comparing fullscreen mode with window mode?
-
No frame drops that I can see - however the OSD does not scale for the iMac display so the text is tiny and hard to read.
No difference between windowed and full screen unless I make the window really small (< 1/4 screen).

philmoz: Ok, please give us some time to investigate the issue. What you observe, is that like a tearing of the screen?
The text size you mentioned was chosen small on purpose, we might have to change that on those high resolution iMac displays if people don't like it.
-
I'm seeing screen tearing - visible break where objects and terrain is sheared horizontally (same as reported for FS2).
Also experiencing stutters where frames appear to be dropped (although FPS counter does not change).
I appreciate fixing things like this can take time; it's not totally unusable (but not as smooth as RC7).
One thing is the plane does not appear to be affected, only terrain and objects. Even if the plane is close and quite large it remains stable; but I can see tearing in the background behind it.

@philmoz: Ok, this seems to be a bug we have already reported to Apple but doesn't seem to be fixed yet. We have a work around for the tearing issue but would to do some test firsts. If you are interested we can send over a beta version for you to try. If that's the case please drop us an email at mail(at)ipacs.de.

In case it helps here are some screen grabs from Xcode Instruments tool with a Metal Trace.
RC7 - Appears to be double buffered and maintains a steady frame rate aligned with VSync.
RC8 - Appears to be triple buffered; but the display doesn't seem to be able to maintain a steady rate. VSync alignment looks odd as well.

We received your email and will be preparing a beta version. If you want you can run the same tests again with that version.
