Norway mesh not supported by AFS2?

  • Ref : https://flight-sim.org/filebas…file/310-10m-mesh-norway/

This i great news that we now have a mesh for all of Norway.

But as the author points out and i can also see in the sim, it is not really useable north of approx 60 degree(allmost all of Norway is north of 60 degree). When i fly north i get large squares in between where the mesh does not allways load.

So the question is: does not the sim fully support mesh above 60 deg north, or is it a problem with the mesh(or maybe both)?

I hope IPACS or anyone else with knowledge can find a solution for this, as Norway is a really beautiful country and a great challenge to fly in, and a useful mesh is really the only major part missing now to make a greatl scenery ☺

  • I noticed an issue in the three mesh folders - they overlap. about 50 between central and south. But the problem is that we got a flat mesh file in south for central. In addition to this central contains loads of flat files for north. This is why some tiles, when using the three folders independantly have flat areas. You need to merge them into one. Then your just fine. I did some testing yesterday. Molde was having strange artifacts and flat areas, Lenkens and Narvik too. After my folder merge then mesh was perfectly fine, so the airports.

I whish we had cultivation data like for Switzerland

There is cultivation for Switzerland available under flight-sim.org (files from drassaud). Also ORBX offers cultivation (autogen) for Switzerland for free. However I prefer the drassaud files because they are not compiled and can be further improved. Both do not have trees and forests so the default trees are used. For Berne I have a combination of drassaud and ORBX. I deleted the old town part from the drassaud file and replaced it by the ORBX data. This can be done with the great tool AFS2 Scenery Editor.

  • It would have been wonderful - if it ever going to be realized. In the meantime, we use what we have. ;)

Here is a screenshot of ENBL, Norway:

First of all, that is a stunning shot! Great work!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried using Google Earth Flight sim to see how that handles elevation and terrain mesh?

I didn't use the Flight sim part, but in Google Earth VR. The Elevation is 10 times better than 1m Resolution (exaggeration). Every small rock, odd shaped object, etc, shows up. Only thing with that much detail, you see alot and alot of loading pop in and out.

  • Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have also being seeing the same Norway mesh abnormality.

North west of Gardermoen the terrain mesh abruptly flattens out to featureless flat valleys with the landscape form apparently continuing correctly the other side of these flat valleys. In this suspect area the scenery mesh also seems to ‘pop’ into the correct form relatively close to the aircraft.

I have tried both the 19m and 10m mesh and the issue appears to be the same with both.

Are more experienced users also still seeing this or is there perhaps something I am doing wrong?

Incidentally a big thumbs up for the work Hartman has done with the terrain in Norway, it looks absolutely stunning.
