More Orthophoto Sources For AeroScenery

  • Yep, I'm back. Life got in the way.

Lots of requests for more orthophoto sources in AeroScenery. Let's make it happen.

(Lots of new faces on the forum too, which is good).

Can we collate a list (with links) of requested orthophoto sources here and I'll start evaluating them and pick them off one by one.

    First one is of course

    ArcGIS http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?useExisting=1

MartinM posted some others, but I can't find the post now.

  • Here are a couple of more specialized sources, both copied over from Ortho4XP. For those with a working Ortho4XP installation, there is a comprehensive collection of sources in the /Providers subdirectory.

    Hello again Nick.

Now we have got an excellent mesh for Norway. And now the challenge is to find good ortho photos over Norway. In some places, Google or Bing work well, while other parts are useless. Then I tried to use "Zones Photo for X-Plane". (http://zonephoto.org/Cartes.php).

I regularly use your amazing AeroScenery. About programming I can do nothing. I then chose the cumbersome path:

I used AeroScenery --> "Download Image Tiles" (Bing ortho). Then I downloaded the same area from "Zones Photo for X-Plane". Then I have taken all the useless ortho from Bing into Photoshop - and replaced them with ortho from "Zones Photo for X-Plane". I then chose "Run GeoConvert" in AeroScenery and convert them to AFS2 .ttc files.

If it is possible that AeroScenery can retrieve ortho directly from "Zones Photo for X-Plane" - this is high on my wish list.

Here is an example of scenery from Norway (ENBL) where I have used ortho from "Zones Photo for X-Plane":
