HTC Vive Pro Beratung

  • You probably need to do a bit more research. Google and searching YouTube will give you lots of useful info. Personally I suggest you consider an Oculus Rift S. It is a lot cheaper than a Vive Pro headset and much easier to setup. Buy it from Amazon or direct from the Oculus store. Oculus support is reported to be a lot better than HTC.

    Your $'s so your choice!

  • Hi Tom,

thanks for your reply, It's not about $, I'll sell it again, if I don't like ;)

I already tested some VR equipment (to be honest, two Years ago) but I was very disappointed about the screen resolution. Therefore I thought I'll take the best I can get today, for a reasonable price. Actually I wanted a Pimax 8k - but only Oculos and HTC is mentionened on the aerofly page.

Since such equipment is not supposed to be installed from computer-specialists, my hope is, that the setup is made simple. Therefore I was asking for a simple "how-to" manual, especially tailored to aerofly usage..

  • Maybe you should wait for the new HTC Comos to be released (~1-2 months?). Not as lot of details about this yet but it looks like a big improvement over the standard vive and vive pro. This may make selling older HTC models like the vive pro a bit harder to do.

Headset resolution is not necessarily as important as you might think. VR in general is a lot lower res than a good 1080p monitor. VR at best is more like 720p at best. Also, you need a pretty good gaming PC to handle VR, especially with sims (see my PC specs in my signature).

Actually VR usage with RC8 is very straightforward. For my Oculus rift it could not be much easier. Open the RC8 VR shortcut, wait for the start screen, put on my headset, press space bar to centre view, press start and go fly. VR Only works in 4D flying fields btw. Also, up to you to select the setting that work best for you. These VR setting are in the current RC8 manual.

All VR systems require you to learn how to use them. None of them are simple plug and play. However, once you learn to setup and use them they are all pretty straightforward.

VR is a lot of fun but it does have a bit of a learning curve and it is still pretty expensive. I would not recommend getting into VR if all you want it for is RC8.

  • Thank you for your explanations.

First of all, I already use a full blown watercooled 3D machine with gtx2080 - so VR should not be an issue.

Secondly, I plan to use VR also for my own 3D-productions. IMHO the VR resolution is the most visible drawback for my tasks. I don't like to always full zoom into, just to recognize details.

I'll wait for HTC Cosmos esp. because it does not require external mounted sensors.

  • I've pre-ordered a Cosmos and should get it sometime next week. I'm looking forward to seeing if the higher resolution compared to my Oculus Rift CV1 makes much difference with rc8. I'll let you all know.
