If I change to a CPU with many more threads available, will FS2 automatically use the full extra potential or do I need to make a change to Aerofly such as deleting main.mcf or something similar?
The CPU would be compatible with the existing motherboard and windows and other installed software, I would change the uefi bios setup to that for a new CPU automatic install.
Automatically, would be my answer.
The main config doesn't save anything like that. You could copy the same file to a new pc and have totally different hardware.
As Aerofly FS starts it checks your graphics card capabilities. And whenever we perform a new task that can run independent we create a new thread. The operating system then decides on which CPU core it can execute the thread.
