New Flight Dynamics / Systems ?

  • Dear IPACS,

could we have some details on the evolution of the core flight dynamics model from AEFS2 to this new AEFS4 ?

    Was there any progress ?

Same regarding Systems AND Weather modeling. Any new features ?

    Main Simulation Rig:

    Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Lenovo TB310FU 9,5" Tablet for Navigraph and some available external FMCs or AVITABs

  • Aerofly FS 4 has new aerodynamic wings which use a different method of assigning flight controls and airfoils to a section of a wing. Previously only two trailing edge control surfaces could be assigned and only two airfoils (root and tip) were simulated per wing. Now there can be a lot more control surfaces and airfoils which is required for aircraft like the B747 with inboard and outboard ailerons and flaps or the A380 with triple aileron and inboard and outboard flaps. Leading edge devices such as slats or Krüger flaps as well as spoilers are now also fully simulated and have their own parameters for each airfoil station. For developers there are more parameters now to fine tune the behavior of the airfoil and make it non-linear. It's also possible now to define how much the spoilers change the airfoil coefficients with and without flaps. There are also several new parameter to adjust the ground effect and make it more realistic. On top of that the wings now also simulate a Mach drag rise.

In terms of engine simulation, all turbofan and turboprop engines as well as the turbojet in the MB339 now use our component based turbo engine simulation. That means the components like the compressor, burner and turbine are individual parts like Lego bricks that can be chained together. Multiple compressors in a row and multiple turbines with multiple engine shafts connecting them then make up the engine. The individual components simulate a thermodynamic model and as a result the entire thermodynamic cycle and engine behavior is simulated in real time without any parameter tables. We fully simulate engines with one, two or even three spools and more spools would also be possible.

With these changes the B737 for example now flies much nicer than before and is a real joy to fly and very light on the controls, easier to trim for level flight and much easier to takeoff and land.

A lot of time was spent on increasing the system depth on a lot of aircraft.
Most aircraft now have an electrical system simulated as well as a cold and dark option.

You'll hear new realistic callout sounds, terrain warnings, master cautions and warnings.

Overall many features that were just available in one or two aircraft before are now available in many more aircraft.

Weather: We're experimenting with many features behind the scenes all the time.

Aerofly FS 4 now uses our own cloud rendering technique which works without headache on all our platforms. We used a third party library for this in Aerofly FS 2 which limited the draw distance and sometimes had bugs that we difficult to fix.

    Regards,
