Big missing Airport in Sweden

  • The new nordic scenery is a very big improvement since the last version of aerofly fs. I think it is great!

Malmö Airport (ESMS) is the fourth biggest airport in Sweden, but it is not included in the simulator. I have mentioned this when aerofly fs2022 was released. I would really appreciate if it was implemented in a future update.

Also a big airport in Norway is missing: Stavanger International.

The vicinity of Seattle-Tacoma Airport (KSEA) lacks a number of smaller airports that are general aviation. Altogether there are five in addition to others that I have not mentioned.

  • I am planning a sightseeing trip (as usual as a shareable mission) to visit the famous Preikestolen in Norway - and noticed that Stavanger airport (ENZV) is missing, which adds a rather uneventful 20 minutes from Haugesund/Karmoy Airport to the flight plan. The fact that way smaller airports nearby are included while bigger and more important airports are missing (try to land at Malmö in AFS4 ;) ) is somewhat curious.

Is there any community effort (possible) to add more airports? I know the SDK for airport construction is still missing, but is there at least some sort of quick and dirty way to add runways to start from? The instructions to convert airports from Cloudport are rather daunting.

The vicinity of Seattle-Tacoma Airport (KSEA) lacks a number of smaller airports that are general aviation. Altogether there are five in addition to others that I have not mentioned.

The area of Washington state has many beautiful airports for island hopping and backcountry flying - and most of them are missing in AFS4. Renton Municipal (KRNT) was my favourite starting point to visit all the small airfields around the bay, and it just is not there.

And lets not forget our helicopter friends: the number of helicopter pads at hospitals and other locations is rather small, so EMS flying is restricted to very few places with very few options locally. This would also be nice if the community could supply helipads - but how?

  • A quick-and-dirty solution is the one in the attached zip file, which simply retrieves the data from the IPACS database.

    Important notice:

    - IPACS does not like to see this solution because it can cause errors.

    - Nevertheless, I have used these solutions so far without any problems to quickly make an ICAO aerodrome visible. The aerodrome is also made visible in the navigation.

  • I doubt it's worth the trouble to do the Cloudport conversion. You don't get an actual runway surface (other than what is in the satellite image and it might not be a smooth surface depending on the terrain mesh accuracy) or runway lights or papi. You don't get a aircraft starting location marker unless you make one like the helipad in the example. You might have trees where you don't want them. Buildings could be just the default autogen or in if from the Cloudport data then in the wrong position. I have found that often airports that have not been implemented still show up in the satellite imagery scenery tiles and even have autogen buildings in Aerofly FS 4. So I would just try to land at the airport even if it is only a part of the satellite image tiles and pretend...it will still have some autogen buildings most likely, but without any actual static aircraft or nice airport specific features.

  • ENZV has a north-south runway, which is also displayed correctly in FS4.

Therefore, I have now made this:

    1. ENVZ from FSCloudPort downloaded and unzipped
    2. enzv.wad added

=> And this is the result:

Personally, this is enough for me for now, but I also like the full functionality of FS2.

  • With the images from the Norway project and without artificial runways, it looks even better: :)

  • As I already mentioned Renton (KRNT) and several other general aviation airports are missing in the vicinity of Seattle (KSEA). They are small airports which would not require much work from developers to produce them. In my view these airports should be added as soon as possible.

What file is this? Can you explain to me please?

  • Just for fun view to KRNT

In the 2022 version of Aerofly besides the Seattle-Tacoma airport (KSEA) it is possible to add through mods all the smaller general aviation airports in that region and that are missing in the mobile version of Aerofly 2023. I already did that but the airports only they worked at night, that is, the clues only appeared in the midst of darkness. During the day, no tracks and no images of terrain appeared. They are small airports and therefore less laborious to be made. I don't understand why these airports around Seattle-Tacoma are missing in the mobile version of Aerofly 2023.

  • What file is this? Can you explain to me please?

If you search with "icao.wad" you will find some posts of mine about it.

    In a nutshell:

FS4 has more airfields stored in its internal database than are available as take-off sites in the LOCATION menu - for whatever reason. These airfields can be rudimentarily called up in FS4 from a folder with 2 files that have the ICAO name of the airfield. As an example, I attach KNRA.

  • I will give that a try. For a shareable mission the installation needs to be easy - because without the airport the mission does not show up.

Or I just build two missions, one for non-modded and one for modded AFS4? :/

And if I download this file and put it in the Aerofly 2023 mobile version folder will it work?

  • With the images from the Norway project and without artificial runways, it looks even better: :)

It works like a charm, thank you very much. Strange that the in-game airports are stored in a binary format, while the old text-file format still works.

Maybe CloudPort can offer a "Download for Aerofly FS4" option in the future.

Oh, and maybe IPACS makes all airports visible on the map, even though there is no way to start or land there. Helps with the navigation. For my Sweden trip this would really helped in building flight plans, and led me to build the Missionsgerät to import stuff from Skyvector.
