Still Using FS2 more than FS4?

  • I gotta say that I still use FS2 more than FS4 as a PCVR flight sim. Mainly because it still looks and performs very well and I have most FS2 DLC's and flight-sim,org dot com user addons. So scenery overall is still much better imho. FS4 global scenery is nice but still pretty basic in most areas. The only plus with FS4 has been aircraft landing lights showing up in VR, lol! Maybe I'm missing something???

As an aside, I still feel the same way about X-Plane 11.55 being better in VR than X-Plane 12 currently is.

  • Aerofly FS 4 has had a number of major updates now, adding more features and new aircraft.

For example: Boeing 787, A380, A321, B737 NG and MAX, Concorde, UH60 Blackhawk, CRJ900, Ju52, BF109, Antares 21, ASK21, Fokker DR1 and also tons of more repaints for existing airplanes.

And new features such as: thousands of more custom made airports, global scenery, global cultivation (buildings, trees, structures, etc), missions, flight logs, time-skip and going back in time (undo)...

One of the latest additions are glider winch launch, glider aerotow and self launch gliders.

Which FS 2 user addons from Flight-Sim.org are you missing in FS 4?

I'm asking because the files for elevation and images can be used 1:1 for both versions from the start and some scenery has already been transferred to FS 4.

I have been using both versions FS 2 and FS 4 in parallel for a while now, with access to the same data. I have described how this works here:

Well for instance, LA city heli ports are still much better with FS2. With FS4 there is a big ugly building in front of the US Bank, lol! Also, performance with FS2 is still much better.

Hawaiian Islands for starters. Also, Meigs dls plus flight sim's addon, just to name a couple. Sorry, but if some of these have already been converted, I stand corrected, lol!

By Meigs KCGX, do you mean CHICAGO MEIGS FIELD from ORBX? If so, I can publish two small files here that will also work on FS 4.

Ya, the Meigs FS2 DLC. If you have those that also work with FS4 then maybe ask Aerofly support to add these. Thanks mate.

  • I don't know if Aerofly integrates a third-party software, especially if the airfield no longer exists.:/

However, I have now described for everyone who has the FS 2 ORBX version how they can also use it with FS 4::)

I compared the heliports between FS 2 and FS 4. I like FS 4 better because it seems more realistic, even when compared with a 3D map view:

  • Unfortunately, with Hawaiian Islands, Apollo50, Florida Turkey Point, Swiss Refineries Neuchâtel and Collombey we are still failing due to an unresolved issue:

    • In FS 4, (animated) objects cannot be rotated in the cardinal direction.:(:(:(

All static objects that already exist in the correct position with "<[float64][orientation][0]>" can be used as POIs for FS 4 with very little effort.:) This applies to all xref objects and lights, but unfortunately not to animated objects (they require a dummy airport).

Ya, they do look a little better with FS4 but like I said aready, there is a big ugly building north of the US Bank Building that is much higher than it and isn't there with FS2 (or in RL). I have mentioned this to Support along with a few other things like flashing light poles at klax and not being able to turn off VR controllers (Quest Pro) because they end up jumping up in my face with FS4. Oh welll, maybe these will get fixed someday, along with the ability to easily import FS2 scenery. Cheers.
