A320 / 21 - No autotrim indication on Eng failure...

  • When I fail an engine in any of the A320 / 21:

    1) with the AP not engaged, I still see rudder being deflected - it shouldn't [rest of the post here should have read: "add all of the required rudder input but rather rely on the pilot rudder and rudder trim inputs to later set it's proper inputs based on pilot's rudder and rudder trim settings"];

    2) if I engage the AP and HDG mode, there's no display of rudder trim units being automatically set (central pedestal - rudder trim);

    3) only if I use the rudder trim knob (central pedestal) will rudder trim units be displayed.

    Would like to see the correct behaviour programmed :)

    Thx !

  • 1) shouldn't? Its a fly by wire aircraft with turn coordination and yaw damper. A sudden yaw rate should absolutely force the yaw damper to use rudder to counteract the uncommanded yaw rate. If it didn't do that there would be no turn coordination and no yaw damper features... So yes, there is a rudder deflection happening most likely in the real airplane, too. Just not a rudder trim indication perhaps on the pedestal.

    2) Yes, that is not yet implemented.

    3) Yes, because asymmetric thrust compensation is not yet implemented.

    There is however a cyan slip indicator on the PFD (depending on flap config) which shows you if the correct trim is applied.

  • OFC you're absolutely right about 1) and I actually intended to write: "it shouldn't add all of the required rudder input but rather rely on the pilot rudder and rudder trim inputs to later set it's proper inputs based on pilot's rudder and rudder trim settings" but the remaining text didn't get into the post :-/

    Regarding the other two items, related to asymmetric thrust compensation, do you believe they'll get implemented in later updates ?

    Thank you !

    When I have time for it, then yes. But there are a lot of things on the todo list.

  • Can we have an insight of what is on the to do list of IPACS? Or is that not possible

    At least, knowing that IPACS has a long TODO list is already very good !!! :)

    For sure this sim is not abandoned, as we've just seen recently with the last GREAT update :)
