It's a background project because it takes a long time to develop. We can't just pause everything else, there wouldn't be any visible progress to customers for a long time.

Can't you make the weather with some kind of random generator? I don't know how XP does it. Just a thought of mine. 🤷
My concern about adding more complex features to the simulator, such as clouds, rain, ATC, simulated water, is that the simulator might lose its smoothness and high refresh rate free of stutters. For me, this is the main advantage that sets it apart from the competition and makes me come back to it time and time again.
I prefer to not have any of these features than decreasing the simulator great performance.

Doesn't matter if you use randomness or real world data, you still need to display the weather in the sim and it should look realistic, that's like 70% of the total work...

Is any kind of automated weather expected to arrive in the sim within a year or so Jan, do you think?, just curious...

Like I said, we cannot estimate any time frame.

I’d say this kind of project should be a priority no? Like it’s been missing in the sim for so long now.
I was flying in VR some minutes ago. Trying different settings, I increased the cloud density to maximum, and it was incredibly how the fps decreased. I think that the cloud system should be redone to include a weather feature with volumetric clouds. this would be a very big work for the team, I would not expect for it soon.
If you have an significant FPS drop with 2D clouds and fog, then 3D (or volumetric) clouds would be the end for your PC, as these require a more capable machine.
Don’t get me wrong, as I have no negative intentions behind my question, but in a flight sim like Aerofly, which is super realistic in many aspects, how does the weather system become a non-priority project? In my opinion, a weather system is a significant feature in every realistic flight simulators for several reasons. I’m just genuinely curious about the reasoning behind IPACS choice to categorise this as non-priority-project.
Couldnt agree more. Maybe make it monthly subscription like Global Scenery.
