• Dear Aerofly users,

with the last update we have introduced a new copilot. Some of you are looking however for the old interface.

Could you please tell us in this thread here on how you have used the old copilot and under what circumstances? We would like
to understand what you are missing before we introduce back a new copilot system.

  • Thank you aerofly , in my opinion if we can have vertical speed control and also speed control in route mode that would be perfect , the way I use the copilot is I manually take off and then transfer the controls to the copilot , let it fly the route and approach then take back the controls 500 ft from landing .

Huge thanks for taking our opinions into consideration.

As others have mentioned, the removal of vertical speed is the main issue with the new copilot.

Because there's no aircraft weight and balance as Jet-Pack (IPACS) brought up before, it leads to ascent rates of 4000+ fpm. One user even reported +7000 fpm with the new copilot.

  • Fly_wu: Please write in english our chinese is not that good.

From what we read here a manual control over 'vertical speed' is the most important point.

The old interface had a number of flaws for the user, especially the fact that you could adjust 'vertical speed', 'speed' and 'destination elevation' in one interface was causing confusion. What setting takes priority?

Anyway, please post us some more use cases for the old copilot and we will check and see what interface we can offer that offers a similar interface as the copilot with less confusion.

When new features are introduced, please also keep the previous style (for users to choose through settings), because different players have different preferences. I hope this feature is not an overriding one.

This isn't possible most of the time. We're not keeping it backwards compatible if we find a more elegant solution. This would make the code convoluted and un-maintainable. We'd end up with spaghetti code which would slow development down and also costs performance.

That's why we're asking what features are actually missing in the copilot right now. It looks like more people used the vertical speed mode than I thought. Again, this mode is rarely used in the real world and isn't as realistic as the simple flight-level-change mode that the copilot does now. And even though the vertical speed that can be achieved is higher it's not necessarily unrealistic as many say. The cause is just the light airplane mass, which is pretty much below landing mass and thus 15-25% lighter than a typical takeoff mass.

  • I usually use the copilot when creating scenery with a helicopter. I have these use cases:

    (1) Copilot takes over the current settings for Pitch & Stick & Pedal:
    - Start of the copilot with the current settings
    - Fly on from the co-pilot with exactly these settings
    - Adjust individual of these settings by me, i.e.
    — Pitch up/do down
    — Stick left/right and forward/backward
    — Pedal left/right

    (2) Copilot takes over the current flight data speed & altitude resp. variometer & course
    - Start of the copilot with exactly theses flight data
    - Continue flying from the co-pilot with exactly these flight data
    - Adjusting individual of these flight data by me, i.e.
    — speed up/down
    — altitude up/down resp. variometer more/less
    — course left/right

Dear admin, what i think the previous co pilot system was good. But if you only add the manually vertical speed setting, it will be really great. Because for now i can not set the vertical speed manually.

  • admin After doing some testing using the interactive cockpit autopilot, this does a much better job at ascending towards the set altitude. I'm curious as to why the copilot isn't using similar ascent rates compared to A/P

The copilot uses the autopilot, too. So the climb rates should be identical.
