What VR headset for Aerofly FS4 is recommended if I'm using a MacBook Air M2? The framerate on MAX is absolutely smooth as silk so I'm hoping to find a VR headset that will work.

Sorry but that isn't PCVR capable. A little google research will confirm this is the case. It should do pretty good 2D though. Cheers.

If only IPACS could port Aerofly FS Global to Meta store app, everybody could use it as a stand alone app with Meta Quest VR headsets, no need to do PCVR. I keep dreaming about this

Some time in the next ~10 years standalone chips may be good enough to compete with current PCVR and/or cloud based apps will be common place (and affordable). Your crystal ball is as good as mine. However, like my grandma always told me, ' if you rely on a crystal ball, you may end up with a mouth full of glass' , lol!
