New Copilot Controls

  • Can someone help me understand the new Copilot controls as I’m running into loads of issues with it.

In the past, when flying long haul I would manually take off, and then engage the copilot to navigate, before skipping time for part of the journey.

I never had any issues with this and the aircraft would simply follow the route and stick to the correct altitude.

However now when I engage the navigation, it is doing allsorts of weird and not so wonderful stuff.

    For example:

Wildly veering from side to side, erratically trying to stick to the right course,

Randomly deciding to fly in the opposite direction (ie I took off from New York with a route heading to Europe, but as soon as I engaged the copilot it turned the aircraft around and started flying back due West),

After skipping part of the journey the copilot often has disengaged navigation and is on cruise mode. It is also either in a stall or constantly trying to climb, even if I’ve set the altitude to something much lower.

I’m clearly doing something wrong but I can’t figure out what.

The old copilot was so simple to use but this one seems too unpredictable.

  • Thanks. I’ll try replicate the issue later and take some screenshots.

Having a quick look again this morning, I think some of the issues arise whilst setting up the route.

I’ve found that if I create a new route it defaults the origin to ‘current location’ and when I select a destination it doesn’t allocate a runway by default.

In the past it would prompt me to pick a start and end runway but now unless I change this manually after setting up the route, it messes up the navigation on the copilot.

Even if I only use a destination runway and leave origin as ‘current location’ it struggles with detecting the route and the aircraft will fly erratically.

    Hope it makes sense.

  • I have been complaining about the wild behaviour of the copilot for weeks now. It use to be so smooth whilst following a route, now since a couple of updates ago its all gone wild, desperately trying to keep on route. the aircraft wings alternately going up and down trying to keep level. Devs will you please please stop it doing this wild behaviour.

IOS or Android? which plane? Which route?

  • windows. all routes, all aircraft. I have always only flown with co-pilot, I take off, fly my route and land, all by co-pilot. Never any problem, always super smooth. Until a couple of updates ago, now its all erratic.

Yeah this is what I’m experiencing. I pretty much fly only airliners but it’s occurring all the time with different aircraft and on any route.

    The aircraft will sometimes fly ok for part of the route but then starts doing crazy things, other times it is straight from takeoff;

Going into a stall just randomly, changing the copilot mode on its own, wings tipping up and down, flying off course etc. It’s like a toddler has taken over the controls.

Whenever I advance time it also often goes back live with the plane in a slight climb (rising then dropping 1000ft) and then it immediately lowers the nose, rather than it just flying steady.

If I disengage the copilot and then reengage it sometimes fixes itself but often I have to take over manually, fly it for a bit on my own then reengage. However that’s not to say it won’t happen again.

Also if I have the plane flying smooth with the copilot engaged and then skip time, it throws up all sorts of random issues. Again putting the aircraft into a stall as it tried to fly vertically, veering off course and reaching ridiculously high altitudes. Sometimes if I’m near the destination then it occasionally approaches at 90 degrees from the runway and tries to bank and land at the last minute.

These aren’t on every occasion but more than not.

I am also on PC (Steam)

  • An example taken from earlier today.

A route to Dubai. Had it flying somewhat smooth, although the copilot had disengaged the navigation mode on its own and had set it to cruise which it does semi regularly…

I reselected navigation and skipped time. All was fine…

Skipped it again and the aircraft, despite still having copilot enabled was now in a spin and stall.

  • You are having it worse than me jimbo23. My only quirk is turning the course smoothly. The co-pilot used to be smooth but now its like tilting the wings a full 45 degrees no matter how small the deviation of the route, hence it then tilts the wings 45 degrees in the opposite direction trying to hold the route. It used to anticipate the amount of deviation and only dip the wings accordingly, but now its only full on 45 degrees every time. chaos. I must say co-pilot always completes the route but its not a pretty sight to watch.

  • I am experiencing that too flyerman, over exaggerated movements to correct slight deviations. It’s as though the plane is tilting side to side like a ship.

I have found that some of the issues I’m experiencing can be managed depending on how I’ve set up the route, but not all and not all the time.

If I select new route, pick 2 airports and fly then I have issues. If I come out of the navigation menu and reenter then manually select the runways for departure and destination then it seems the copilot is a lot happier with that.

But it still doesn’t stop it from turning off the navigation mode on its own and the occasional random stall or getting lost etc when skipping time, but it appears to reduce it.
