If someone accidentally lands at the Rubik Ernő Airport in Esztergom, Hungary (LHEM), they know that the runway is actually grass, not concrete. According to Google Earth, too...

No, it isn’t a heliport. It is an airfield with an 1030 m / 3380 ft runway.

Remember a few weeks ago it was said that it is impossible to navigate unless Aerofly got GPS for the light aircraft?

Mmm try a rough ‘spawn’ in the Hungary area, tune in that 115.1 VOR/DME on the chart.

Out of VOR range? Steer to achieve a constant DME distance. Ground station is at 90 degrees to aircraft heading.

Visualise the bearings and distances of the VOR/DME and the destination airfield, 079 degrees/41 miles on the chart. An easy 30 degree approximate right angle. (Sine 30 degrees is 0.5/1).

Adjust track near the destination airfield.

    Arrival at Rubik Ernő.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

VOR navigation works very well. It's something different than just programming flight routes in the NAV/devices. You also learn a lot about flight navigation 👍

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

I didn't know that DME has a longer range than VOR. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too.
