VR Lighting issues

  • First I'd like to say this sim is a work of art in VR, i've been doing RAW data circuits in the A319, am blown away by how much is actually modeled for a 'lite' sim.

Night flying has a major bug in VR, the left eye omits some night lighting around airports, this can actualy be quite nauseating as the image is blended.

    Am flying on PC - i9-14900K - 64gigs or ram, 4090. Quest 3.

Performance is amazing, not a glitch on max settings. Is this lighting problem a known issue? To clarify, close my left eye, night lights missing on some buildings, close right eye, all ok. Both eyes open, doesn't feel nice :|

    Thank

  • For some reason Vulkun tanks my system, FPS drops very low, even with a 4090. Everything works perfectly except 'some' night lights in one eye in OpenGL. Is this a known issue?

Tested in Vulkan, same lighting issue on the apron, and stutters.

Test scenario used, A319 at Stansted Airport (EGSS) Although I see it at most airports at night. It is only the night light textures on buildings. flightdeck, runway lights etc are normal. buildings, lights flickeron and off at night, especially if I look around

  • Ok thanks, but I can replicate this on my old PC rig. Could it be the Quest 3? Btw when I say FPS drop, it is still very smooth, but an I9 with a 4090 you have zero stutters in OpeGL, vulkan stutters slightly every now and again, 120 fps drops to 25 for a second, then back to smooth. As mentioned, both modes have the lighting issue.

Other sims I am using - DCS (F4 Phantom Mod) FS2020/FS2024, also many other VR driving sims. I'll also add, I've had this issue with Aerofly since I purchased late last year, since then I have upgraded PC, and on the new PC have had a few Nvidia driver updates.

  • Hi, try to discover why Vulkan is producing this fps drops, it sounds to me that there could be an issue in your drivers or configuration.

Here's a short video that shows the issue, recorded through steam. I think it's just recording one eye, anyway video quality is terrible but you can see the issue on the terminal buildings and apron. Once again to confirm, same thing on two PC's, one with a 4070, the other with a 4090 (my main rig) Have tried a few drivers, but gone back to 566.36

Btw tried Vulkan again, same issue and doesn't run as well. A quick search shows others have seen that issue with Vulkan (FS2 ran great in Vulkan on my rig) they are also using a high end rig Optimum Settingsto Eliminate Microstutters

Anyway, the sim runs great in OpenGL, I run in Oculus mode through Steam.
