Installation on an external SSD

  • It seems that the DLCs are not required anymore with global scenery enabled. Maybe you could try to delete them and move your AFS4 installation to the internal SSD. Having an application in an external drive doesn’t sound too stable.

    Best regards, Juan

  • hello, so a new installation on the internal SSD, then without user scenes, loading the game OK, but I already know that my mini apple M4 with 256 GB is not enough. Is it possible to place new scenery on an external drive in STEAM? Thanks

In the main.mcf file you can specify a custom path for user scenery. The setting is called extra_user_folder

  • It doesn't work, could you suggest what should be the path for the external scenery? I'm using scenery for fs2, what should the inner members be for fs4? Thanks

From experience, I think it's easier for you to show in a screenshot how you do it, because it's usually easier to see what it could be.

When using FS 2 Scenerien for FS 4 you also have to make sure that not everything can be taken over 1:1 directly, see also this post:

    Configurations:

    - MacBook Pro (16", 2024); Chip: Apple M4 Max; actual macOS | WinWing: URSA MINOR-Fighter-Joystick R | Thrustmaster TCA AIRBUS EDITION: 2x Quadrant, 2x Quadrant Add-On | Pro-Flight-Trainer PUMA X

    - iPad (12,9", 4th Generation, RAM: 6 GB); actual iOS | nimbus steelseries

  • I had also experimented with outsourcing the user directory on a Mac a long time ago and remember that it did not seem as easy as with a Windows computer. My problem at the time was to name the external drive correctly. Unfortunately, I can't give a concrete tip today.

However, I think I remember that in the path name the folder "scenery" may not be called, because FS 2 itself searches for "scenery", so that it must be rather like this (possibly the last SLASH must also be omitted):

    <[string8] [extra_user_folder] [disk6s1:/volumes/KingAero/]>

  • Hello, Thank you. I have already advanced and with the help of AI 😊, I edited the main.mcf. "cz" scenarios work, but e.g. Hawaii doesn't. I changed the name of the external drive to Data1. So the path to it is: /Volumes/Data1/scenery. Maybe it will help someone else with a Mac and an external Kingston.

  • The Hawaii project for FS 2 is too complex to be transferred to FS 4 with just a few changes. However, a small team revised the Hawaii project for the FS 4 in 2024. I'll ask if and when it can be published.

So I was living in a delusion 😊, the scenery doesn't work on my external drive (Mac). If I move them to the internal drive, where they should be, everything is OK. At the same time, the game "sees" the external drive with the scenery directories, etc. I've been trying all day and nothing. For me, it's a major issue, I only have 250 GB on the internal drive 🙁. Shouldn't the developers have a moment to advise? thanks
  • "Redirect the user folder

The “extra_user_folder” setting can be used to add a new path for user-made aircraft and scenery. If your C drive has limited storage space left you can use a folder on a different drive instead.

    • Create an empty folder on your other storage medium
    • Name it something general like “aerofly_fs”.
    • Copy the path of the folder and paste it into the ‘extra_user_folder’ field
    • Replace all back slashes \ with forward slashes /
    • Save the file and start Aerofly FS.

    For example:

    Code
    <[string8][extra_user_folder][D:/aerofly_fs/]>

creates new folders such as D:\aerofly_fs\scenery\ when Aerofly FS 4 is started. Use the newly created aircraft, scenery or addon subfolders just like in the regular documents directory."

In the main.mcf file you can specify a custom path for user scenery. The setting is called extra_user_folder

    Code
It doesn't work that way for Mac.
