If you get bored while doing a long flight, but still wanna play Aerofly you should be able to save your current position on an ongoing flight.
Maybe you want to practice landing, or test some features on planes ETC.
Could IPACS make it so that you could save your position in a flight than go back to it?

Im pretty sure the devs havent worked on it because of memory usage. Maybe allowing for time skipping to a specific flight path position as another option from the 5 minute time skip would be better.

This is currently not possible for technical reasons (high degree of optimization). In principle it should be possible to modify the code to save the current aircraft state.
It has nothing to do with memory. Memory affects what is currently being loaded, things that you save for later end up in storage not in memory.
