Do you fly with the autopilot of the aircraft or do you use the copilot on-screen menu overlay?
The autopilot shows you the active thrust mode on the primary flight display as well as the target airspeed. Make sure to "bug up", i.e. increase the selected airspeed to the "UP" speed so that the auto throttle keeps the speed up and does not try to slow down to your low target speed.

OK, then still check that mode the autothrottle is in. You can fly manually with autothrottle active and per default the aircraft are set up in the real world, that means autothrottle is armed. If you move the throttle quickly it should just disengage though and you can use manual thrust again. When the thrust slider is green you know the autothrottle or copilot are currently adjusting thrust for you.
