Crashes on Steam Deck

I’ve just done some testing.

The crash appears to be affecting different aircraft but only at certain airports. One being Heathrow.

The crash has only appeared since the recent update.

I have tried verifying the integrity of the game files, in case it somehow corrupted something, but this hasn’t resolved it.

I have tried adjusting the graphics settings and disabling clouds and traffic.

I managed to take off from Heathrow fine with a A321, but when I changed to the A350 the game crashed instantly.

I rebooted the game, tried again with the A350 and it crashed after approx 20 seconds again.

I then tried repeating the above but with other aircraft.

The A319 took off fine and ran ok. As soon as I switched to the A380 it crashed.

It seems that reducing the settings fixed the issue for every aircraft (at least the ones I’ve tried) with the exception of the A380 and A350

I have tried some other airports and the A350 runs fine. But getting the A350 or A380 to fly out of Heathrow crashes every time. Other aircraft also run fine from Heathrow.

So it’s something to do with the combination of Heathrow and the A350/A380

Actually, ignore the above. I’ve tried some other aircraft and some crashed and some didn’t. So not sure what’s going on or causing it.

All seem to work fine, even with A350 and A380.

Heathrow though seems to be causing the issues on Steam Deck. Some airliners work fine but the A350 and A380 cause a crash. Some other aircraft also cause a crash.

This airport worked fine until I did the recent updates.

I’d not played for a few weeks, so I can’t say for certain which update or when the issue started in afraid.

I’ve done some more testing with this issue to try identify any patterns etc and found something interesting.

The crash is triggered not only at Heathrow, but at Heathrow and when the camera angle is moved.

If I leave the camera in the default position I can take off fine, but if I move the camera at all then it crashes a few seconds later.

I have no idea what the significance of this is, but hoping this may shed some light on the problem to help with finding a fix!

A further update:

After some more testing, I have found the following.

The game crashes on approach to Heathrow not just during take off.

Flying over Heathrow at high altitude seems to be ok, but below 20k-30k ft it crashes again.

I have tested every aircraft taking off from Heathrow.

The crash only occurs with the following:

A350

A380

Baron 58

777-300ER

777F

F-15E

All other aircraft I had no crashing issues with.

Any help would be appreciated. Or if there’s anything else you’d like me to test to help find a solution, please let me know!

So after a bit more testing I think I may have found the offending files causing the crash.

Both located within the London City folder in POI.

I basically removed several folders and files relating to the London area then systematically replaced these to see if the crash remained or if it ran ok.

I also tried validating the file integrity after removing these files and redownloaded/reinstalled them to rule out the files being corrupted.

I will test more when I have time later today, but by removing both these files the game didn’t crash on the brief testing I did. Placing one or both back into the game caused it to crash.

Will post an update later on when I’ve had chance to run the game for longer without these files.

After more testing, I’ve found other offending files relating to:

building_special_**_color.ttx

Removing some of these allows me to fly a bit further before a crash, but removing all these files I was able to fly with no issues.

However a new crash occurs when accessing ‘Location’ mid flight from the menu.

I find it strange that the crashes only seemed to occur with the aircraft listed earlier, if it is an issue with the map.

Anyway, I hope there’s enough info there for a fix to be found.

Whilst I don’t want anyone else to have their game crash, it’s good to know it’s not just me lol.

I have just tested my game at Frankfurt with the A350 and it appeared to run fine, but I’ll test it with other aircraft when I get chance.

I’ve never encountered any problems while flying at these locations until the latest update.

I have done a couple of test takeoffs with the A380 at Frankfurt and Munich to see if I could also replicate the crashes you had but I had no crashes. Will test again with other aircraft and flying for longer.

Like yourself, I only encountered issues since the latest updates.

General performance is slower now, loading times longer, and random crashes in the menus also, as well as the crashes mentioned previously.

I managed to fix the Heathrow issue by deleting some of the London files within the game, and so I’m not sure if this perhaps inadvertently fixed any potential issues at other airports, if they shared assets etc.

I hope IPACS bring a patch soon, as the game hasn’t been the same on Steam Deck since the updates.
