Aerofly FS4 UDP Flight Data recorder and Replay - Rewinger

  • I'm on Windows 11.

I read your instructions previously. They are easy to understand and follow.

They indicate “Main Menu” > “Missions” > “Challenges”. But my FS4 only has a "Challenges" item on the main screen. There is no "Missions" item on the main screen (see the screenshot, above). I Googled images of the FS4 menu screen, and they show "Missions" on the main screen. It's confusing.

When I go into the "Challenges" item it shows the flights that are in the custom_missions.tmc file, but my custom flight in custom_missions_user.tmc is not displayed.

  • FederFlyer ah, I see - obviously the instructions are outdated.

I will fix fixed this part off the documentation about the menu structure and added the annotation of Jugac64 about the missions being at the end of the challenge list. (I also found it easier to filter by aircraft to find my custom missions.)

If your custom mission still does not show up, feel free to post your mission file. I will take a look and test it with my AFS4.

  • Hello,

Thanks again for sharing your script — it’s a great addition to Aircraft Tracker, and I really appreciate the new KML support!I’ve tried it out with a SimBrief .kml export, and the route displays nicely on the map.

One small thing I noticed: the individual waypoints (from the <Placemark> elements) don’t seem to appear with labels on the map — only the full route line is shown.I was wondering if it might be possible in the future to display each waypoint as a labeled marker? The .kml does include the <name> and <coordinates> for each point, so maybe this could help for route visualization or briefing. No pressure of course — it already works very nicely as it is. Just thought I’d share the idea in case it’s easy to add.

Hello calou95 i haven’t forgot your request, I will check how Armitage did it with the icons and will try to replicate it in Rewinger.
Maybe a common icon set naming? A new Missiongerät file type?

    Best regards,

    SageMage

  • Attached is my custom_missions_user.tmc file.

This is the process that I used to create it:

    1. Created a simple flight plan in Little Navmap: KCOS to KAMA. Direct flight; no waypoints.
    2. Exported the plan from Little Navmap as a MSFS 2020 PLN, into the \Aerofly FS 4 Flight Simulator\missions folder.
    3. Opened Missionsgerät and selected the KCOS to KAMA PLN.
    4. Reset all the configuration fields with the pink buttons. Set the cruise altitude to 20,000 feet.
    5. Downloaded the flight plan from Missionsgerät to the \Aerofly FS 4 Simulator\missions folder.
    6. In the \Aerofly FS 4 Simulator\missions folder I deleted the existing custom_missions_user.tmc
    7. Renamed the downloaded Missionsgerät .tmc file to be custom_missions_user.tmc
    8. Opened Aerofly, and the mission is not displayed in the "Challenges" section.
  • Opened Missionsgerät and selected the KCOS to KAMA PLN.

FederFlyer You did everything by the book, but encountered the same error Jugac64 found just recently: KAMA does not seem to exist in Aerofly FS 4 (yet), so the custom mission is ignored because it mentions an airport which cannot be started from or landed at.

This would also mean that at the end of your flight no airport would be visible. A quick solution would be to check (e.g. by looking up the airport in AFS4 or on the map of the Missionsgerät) and only pick airports which exist in AFS4.

In the long run the Missionsgerät should check if an airport exists in AFS4 and give a proper warning if this is not the case. I might as well build an airport REST API. ;)

  • Sorry for the slow response. I am traveling and can only check the forum once or twice per day.

I attached screenshots that show KAMA is displayed in both Missionsgerät and FS4.

Also attached is a new custom_missions_user.tmc using major airports: KAUS to KSAT (Austin to San Antonio). I followed the same creation process, but this plan is not displayed in the challenges area.

I also created a plan for LSPO to EGLL (Paris to London), but had the same result (not displayed in the list of Challenges).

Perhaps another user can try using the attached custom_missions_user.tmc ? That will help with troubleshooting if it is an issue with my particular system or if it is an issue with the process.

If you want I can try that Monday. I will try to replicate also your process and see if there are differences in the files.

  • FederFlyer Sorry, I did not test your mission directly but instead checked the airports from my phone - which obviously relied on a broken map file. I will try both missions you send tonight when all my kids are asleep - and I have not fallen asleep in the process as well. ^^

    ---

(Phew, this was fast today ^^) I did the following:

    1. Downloaded the mission file from the ZIP
    2. Put it into C:\Users\***\Documents\Aerofly FS 4\missions
    3. Started Aerofly FS 4 (Steam)
    4. Opened "Challenges"
    5. …and there it was, as the very last entry in the challenges selection.

Maybe your C:\Users\***\Documents\Aerofly FS 4\tm.log has some extra information for you?

By the way: I noticed the start position of your aircraft to be in the middle of an airport building. Currently you will have to hand-edit the starting position by dragging the position on the map. (I am hoping for a new property in the custom missions file which just puts you aircraft in the nearest parking position of the current airport.)

  • Sorry to be off-topic, but ... DickundDoof your Bayern avatar led me to discover that you are in Nurnberg, Germany. My father was in the U.S. Army and I went to high school in Nurnberg from 1968-1971. It is a beautiful area and I have many great memories of friendly people, and amazing hiking and camping.

  • ... continuing with custom_missions_user.tmc

Today I had some results to report:

    1. Little Navmap
      1. Created a simple flight plan in Little Navmap: KCOS to KFTG.
      2. Direct flight; no waypoints.
      3. Exported the plan from Little Navmap as a MSFS 2020 PLN.
    2. Missionsgerät
      1. Loaded the KCOS to KFTG PLN.
      2. Reset all the configuration fields with the pink buttons.
      3. Set the position to Ready for Takeoff.
      4. On the map, the aircraft was off the runway.
      5. Used Shift-Click to drag the aircraft to the end of the runway. It did not move the aircraft. Instead, it created a new waypoint. (see the attached image)
      6. Clicked on the new runway waypoint (the desired takeoff location) in the map and noted the GPS coordinates.
    3. Notepad++
      1. In the MSFS 2020 PLN, changed the <DepartureLLA> and KCOS <WorldPosition> coordinates in the PLN to the runway coordinates I noted in the Missionsgerät map.
    4. Missionsgerät
      1. Loaded the edited PLN.
      2. The aircraft was displayed on the map in the proper runway location.
      3. Saved the plan as a .tmc file.
    5. In the \Aerofly FS 4 Flight Simulator\missions folder
      1. Replaced custom_missions_user.tmc with the .tmc created by Missionsgerät.
    6. Opened Aerofly FS 4 application
      1. Challenges folder had 91 challenges, but not the custom_missions_user.tmc flight plan.
    7. In the \Aerofly FS 4 Flight Simulator\missions folder
      1. Made a backup copy of custom_missions.tmc and replaced it with the .tmc created by Missionsgerät.
    8. Opened Aerofly FS 4 application
      1. Challenges folder now had only 1 flight: the flight plan created by Missionsgerät.
      2. The thumbnail image was correct, showing the flight plan diagram, aircraft and ICAO codes.
      3. But the thumbnail was greyed out and not clickable. (see the attached image)

    Summary:

    • The custom_missions_user.tmc file created by Missionsgerät was ignored by Aerofly.
    • Replacing the custom_missions.tmc file with the Missionsgerät file causes Aerofly to recognize the flight plan, but it is greyed out and not clickable. (see the attached image)
    • I compared the original Aerofly custom_missions.tmc with the Missionsgerät file to see if perhaps the headers for the flights were different, but they have the exact same header formats, so that doesn't appear to be an issue.
    • I created a new, blank text document with Windows Notepad and copied into it the contents of the Missionsgerät custom_missions.tmc. The intention was to eliminate any hidden characters that may have been generated by Missionsgerät. But the results were the same, so it appears hidden characters are not an issue.

  • FederFlyer Ah, I see two issues here:

    1. Moving waypoints on the map is done by holding SHIFT and dragging it. This is supposed to prevent accidental moving.
    2. I believe your mission file is in the wrong folder. There are two of these: the internal AFS4 folder where Aerofly keeps its own missions, and another folder in a completely different directory where you are supposed to put your own custom stuff. This second folder is not in the directory where AFS4 is installed, but in your documents folder. This is also the place where AFS4 creates your user files like the main.cfg configuration file or the tm.log error and information log.

    Summary: You're almost there. :)

  • Dear all,
    small changes with Rewinger:
    Key Improvements:

    • Simulator-Agnostic UDP Parsing:

Rewinger now supports UDP packets from multiple flight simulators (Aerofly FS 4, X-Plane 12, MSFS, and others) using the ForeFlight protocol. The simulator name is automatically detected and displayed in the UI.

    • Traffic & Aircraft Data Handling:

The app now cleanly separates traffic data from simulator data, ensuring correct labeling and display for both your own aircraft and AI/online traffic.

    • Custom Aircraft Info Toggle:

In the GPS Data Sender tool, you can now choose whether or not to send the custom XAIRCRAFT UDP packet. This is useful for compatibility with different simulators and network setups.

    • UI Improvements:

The “Send XAIRCRAFT Info” option is now a user-friendly checkbox in the sender’s Aircraft Metadata section, making it easy to enable or disable as needed.

    • General Bug Fixes & Robustness:

Improved handling of simulator name extraction, better traffic marker labeling, and overall more robust UDP message parsing. How to Update:

    • Pull the latest version from the GitHub repository:
GitHub - AeroSageMage/rewinger: Modified Airtracker to be used with Aerofly FS4 UDP capabilities.
