Aerofly Fs4 Crashing, and Reseting Data

    Hey,

    A while back, I tried to reset my Aerofly flight logs and my achievements. I read on a forum that you can do this by deleting some files on the folder “Aerofly FS 4”. I deleted the two files, Achievements and Flight Logs (I don’t remember exactly what they were called), and when I ran Aerofly, nothing changed.

    I now have a problem with Aerofly crashing, and my achievements and flight logs have randomly reset a few times.

    The last time it reset my data was last night. I closed the app, shut down my computer, and this morning I opened Aerofly to see that all my data is missing. My flight logs are gone, my achievements are gone, and my graphics settings are reset.

    I have also noticed my game crashes more frequently. The last time my game crashed was when I was flying over the east coast of England. The game froze, the screen turned black, then when the screen came back on, the game was closed out. This crash however did not reset my data.

    Could this be caused by the missing files in my Aerofly FS 4 folder? If so, how could I get them back?

    My specs are not very good. When I started playing fs4 I was on high settings, now my computer is old and everything is on low except for texture quality.

    I am pretty sure my personal documents were in one drive. I just uninstalled one drive so hopefully it fixes the problem.

    Usually the achievement and flight log files are not affected or reset automatically by a crash. Do you perhaps have your personal Documents in OneDrive? This has caused issues before, try if you can disable OneDrive for the Aerofly FS 4 folder.


    This has fixed the crashing, but now it seems like the terrain stops loading when I do flights. This happened both times on the last two flights that I have done. I didn’t complete them because no scenery loaded, so I could not land. I am not sure why this is happening because I have a stable internet connection.

    Ya my screen went black too after everything I tried in the thread I posted earlier about FS4 not remembering the quality settings I set em at or the last aircraft or airport I left off at. I've never had a black screen once since using FS4 from day one. Something is a miss...I cannot for the life of me figure out whats going on......:(

    What computer specifications do you have?

    What GPU, CPU, RAM, what driver version do you have for the GPU?

    In the Aerofly FS 4 folder there should also be a tm.log file which contains all error messages or warnings. Could you please upload this file here as a .txt file or pack it into a .zip archive? This might give use clues as to what's going on.

    CPU is an intel i7 10700 8 core (16 thread) @2.90 GHz, RAM is 16 gig DDR5 (15.7 usable), GPU is Asus dual RTX 3060 V2 @ 12gig DDR6, driver version is 566.36.

    I have uninstalled one drive.

    UPDATE: I have run a SFC/scannow thru command prompt and it found corrupt files and repaired them but the issue still remains. The DSM/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth command found nothing. The SFC command did the trick. So where to go from here......:/

    **Just did a registry repair and 4 issues were found and repaired but the issue still exists. *sigh*

    UPDATE: Through the process of elimination and using the Microsoft online help tools (command prompts for checking things), My user profile is not corrupt. So it has to originate from IPACS and the latest updates, no other explanation.

    This shows an error accessing a file located in OneDrive. Do you use OneDrive and can you set an exception for Aerofly FS 4?

    Are the files located at that path?

    Hi Douglas, can you please rename the folder C:/Users/dougi/Documents/Aerofly FS 4/ to something other than "Aerofly FS 4" for testing? Aerofly will then create a brand new folder. Please see if you can then change the settings. When this is working you can try copy over the old flightlog and missions folders to keep your previous flight logs and move the screenshot folder if you need the contents.

    That didn't work. It reset everything like after a fresh install and it "didn't" create a *new folder* as you said it would. I renamed the folder back to what it was, everything came back as I had it, but that issue still exists. I can live with it, its a minor inconvenience. I'm not doing a reinstall either. It's working as it should other than the glitch and I'm ok with it. We tried. They say if it's not broken don't break it more. lol ;) At least I can still use the SIM, just cant change the graphics quality or start where I left off. All good :thumbup:

    No antivirus just windows defender that is part of Win10. No idea about user permissions, never play with that stuff never made any changes to it.

    This issue is a head scratcher eh....:/ lol

    Well folks its over for me, my days of enjoying FS4 are at an end. I reluctantly did an uninstall/reinstall, deleted user accounts in my PC so I could use a local account and the results were a complete failure. I have no frickin idea what is wrong with my system and why I cant get this dam thing working properly again. The SIM will absolutely not hold any settings and there is no FS4 in the document folder after the reinstall. I'm completely and utterly done trying. The other option is to reinstall Win10 HOME and I'm not about to do that and mess up my system tweaks and have to do them all over again. I love FS4 immensely and dammit I'm really gonna miss it big time. I have no other options left, I'll have to fire up the Xbox again and go back to using MSFS 2020 so I can fly. This is a complete pain in the "...ss" and I curse Microsoft for they're goddam monopoly on PC systems and OS's. :cursing:

    It's a shame, instead of racking your brains with all sorts of solutions that ultimately lead to nothing, the simplest is a complete uninstallation of FS4 on Steam, then a clean reinstallation, while making a backup of your addons in documents in advance. This is how I proceed and everything is fine.;)

    That's what I did, a complete reinstall of Steam and FS4 from scratch. I have no addon's to backup just the 4 DLC's I bought and paid for that are part of the SIM. Like I said I deleted all users (myself, and my grandson's account) and set my PC to just use a local account and after the redownload and install , FS4 would not hold any personal settings for my own preferences. FS4 didn't even create a Aerofly FS4 folder in the documents folder this time. There's something wrong with my system (Win10 OS) that is preventing FS4 from installing properly. I have no Antivirus installed just windows defender that's part of Win10. This problem started after the updates we got recently. I couldn't tell you at this point whats going on and I'm computer savvy but this has even got me scratching my head.

    I have a lenovo Extreme tablet (12gig RAM), (256Gig storage), to run FS4 on that I'm assuming I'd have to install steam and install the mobile version correct...? I can cast my screen (via an HDMI adapter cable I already have) to a larger TV.

    Ive already packed up the PC and stuck it in the closet. I have my tablet for all my online needs. I'm gonna give it a rest for awhile. Sadly I have the "other" SIM to use which mind you has been running great on the ole Xbox for the last few months. I just run the standard version with a few helicopters (my main aircraft I fly). I'm gonna think about if I want to use that dam PC again or try the FS4 mobile version on this tablet/PC thingy. Fun Fun Fun lol :)
