C172 Out Of Fuel!

  • Hey,

I am currently doing a cross country flight in the C172. I was doing a leg from KCPK to KJAX, but my plane ran out out of fuel and I had to do an emergency landing in KGGE.

My engine started sputtering and it would get random bursts of power. It was not my fault (I don’t think) because my mixture was leaned properly, and I did not do anything to cause this.

I am very confused. I thought fuel was not implemented in Aerofly yet. Is there even a way to refuel?

    Thanks for reading.

  • The sim’s fuel selector valve needs occasional switching. I never saw that in real life, the Cessna’s ‘both’ normally lets the fuel tank levels equalise but I didn’t use fuel injected Cessnas much. The Aerofly site’s Cessna guide says the fuel injector return line only feeds into one (right) fuel tank.

The fresh sim. The fuel selector valve is on ‘both’.

After a prolonged full throttle climb, just switched to ‘left only’. Sucking air from an empty fuel tank can stop an engine.

  • The fuel system in the C172 is experimental and currently there is no option to refuel it. And yes, it consumes fuel currently but currently that is the only aircraft that does this. We had other airplanes consume fuel in the past but without any refueling or setting the fuel before the flight we kept getting complaints (rightfully so) that the aircraft kept running out of fuel. So for now we've stopped fuel consumption and will add it back once the sim supports this better.

Are you saying you removed C172 fuel consumption, or you removed others and the C712 still has it?

    Thanks for responding!

The second. At the AF2022 for example the EC135 was still consuming fuel, but at AF Global only Cessna does this. It is more noticeable if you only use the left or right fuel tank. But the fact that the engine stops when there is no fuel is completely new to me. Whether this is actually the case, I have not been able to test yet.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but is there any way to remove the fuel consumption, for example tweaking something in the tmc file?
