Extra high L3 cache CPUs.

  • Is X3D type higher cache in CPUs very beneficial in FS4 and possible future Aerofly versions? As Jan advised I got a big performance increase when I moved from a 3 MB to an 8 MB L3 cache CPU. Current CPUs have much more but how much is enough?

The relevant AMD Ryzen 7000 series X3D CPUs have 144, 140, 106 or 96 MB of cache, about twice that of the equivalent ordinary CPUs.

  • The x3d would be quite the overkill for Aerofly now, but to be honest if you are upgrading and budget allowing that would always be my choice. The impact going from an 5800 tot 5800x3d had on FlightSim was crazy. For a game pc, I would definitely go with an x3d again. But for aerofly? Probably not really necessary.

  • Thanks Mtyn, that makes sense to me and directing more funds towards the graphics side would clearly work better with Aero.
I’m currently running 4K with DSR computed image size doubling/reducing to fit at 60 fps and the CPU usage is remarkably low at 25 to 30%. The image quality is stunning and I think I’ll stay in that direction.
The other two sims seem to annoy users as much as entertain them. A super hot CPU to suit them would only take away from Aerofly.

Later, I got the Win 11 update in anyway with no apparent problems. Hardware changes some other day.
