Autopilot - Changing speed alone...

  • Hi everybody,

I'm quite lazy and I'm pretty sure that somebody will be able to explain me what is going on.

I'm regularly using the "Autopilot" shortcuts buttons to configure my flight (playing on IPAD) configuring the Header/Speed and altitude targets.

FYI - I never use the "Route" autopilot, less funny...

However regularly after set-upping my climb phase, the speed automatically decrease to 140knots and I need to adjust it again manually.

    Any idea ?

    Thank you

    Eric

  • If you don’t have a flight plan then the aircraft managed speed doesn’t have any data to follow e.g. airport restriction 250kts/10000ft. The system is probably defaulting to the speed you are currently flying. I would recommend at least having a flight plan, so the plane has some data it can use, even if you want to fly in hdg.

Also, what plane are you using? 140kts is very slow for an aircraft such as the A320 or 737.

  • Hi all,

    Thank you for your answers.

To complete it happens recently with Q400 and A380 as well as A32x so mainly large airplanes.

I always have a flight plan and it is not happening during the approach phase only during climb.

Basically I flying manually for take-off, reach 6,000-7,000 feet and put the autopilot and around 18,000/22,000 feet the speed move from 280 to 140... I can after few second overwrite and increase the speed again but it is very surprising and can be dangerous...

I really would like to understand what is going. I don't have the feeling to overspeed the limit imposed by the location or altitude.

    Thank you

    EK

  • Are you using the copilot with the screen overlay or the autopilot in the virtual 3D cockpit?
