On piston aircraft eg c172 and baron 58 we should be able to lean the mixture and see the effect of it in increasing engine performance. But when I do so it just reduce the power....I know the sim might be doing it automatically but it brings realism when I do it myself.....

This is true, perhaps the mixture rise is not implemented in the SIM. In my experience in the Cessna 172 S there should be a noticeable increase in RPM and Increase in EGT when reducing the mixture to a certain point.

I spoke to the developer and the mixture temperature rise is implemented but it's tuned for the fuel injection engine that we have in the C172SP which already compensates for altitude changes and only has a small reaction to the mixture lever in general. There are apparently big differences in how leaning works even in similar engines so this needs more data and more fine tuning on our side.
