VR with Aerofly FS4

  • I am interested in trying VR with the sim but know nothing about what I would need.

I have seen Oculus quoted but they seem a bit expensive especially just to try and see how I get on.

Can anyone give me some advice on a more budget priced system I could look for. I am happy to consider a used system as long as I know what to check for.

    Thanks

  • If you have a good graphic card in your Computer ...

I think the best in money / what you get .. is in the moment the Quest 3 ... ( about 500,-€)

You can also check ...next weeks are black weeks ... if you get an cheaper way ... but for the money its the best you can get new ...

If you have money enough ... I think the new Pimax Crystal OLED will be the best you can get in the moment .. (about 2300 ?€ )

If you have to look at every cent ... try to get a used Quest2 (about 170 €)

  • If you try one time in VR ... you never play in 2 D :)

The only thing I hate about VR ^^ I had a great home cockpit setup, tried VR once, and could never go back.

@Op - Quest 3 is the best experience vs price range in my opinion. But I'll be honest, I run an Nvidia 5080 with a very high-end CPU, and I feel a 5090 would be the sweet spot for places like Heathrow. If I were in your position, I wouldn't go anywhere near VR for a year or two. You'll be able to pick a headset and GPU good enough to run everything ultra for a decent price.

  • This is my main setup.

    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz (3.00 GHz)
    Installed RAM 32.0 GB
    Device ID 6F990BEA-1D81-4446-AB66-5DBC2ED97146
    Product ID 00331-20090-00000-AA841
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
    Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB

  • I think you are just in the limit, do you use Windows 10/11, right?

Anyway, the Quest 3 should be your option, the other high end VR headsets have more resolution, I suspect they need more resources.

And the Quest 3 is a nice device as a stand alone VR headset, you can have fun with it without doing PCVR.

AFS4 should work if you choose clever params, Condor 3 should potentially work, and MSFS2024 is very efficient in VR with the latest releases so it could work with low graphic settings. Don't dream to try X-Plane 12, but X-Plane 11 could work too. But for all of them, you should use low graphic parameters.

    Best regards, Juan

  • AF FS 4 on a RTX 3060 with a Quest3 should run ....

but i think no chance for a good flight with the other big player from MS :)

  • Yes ...i had this nearly this setup also before ... its ok , but minimum for VR with good resolution / no flickering...

more is better ... :) for MS ... you need 10 x so much power :)

  • I suspect the new Steam Frame VR headset, that will be available on next year, will be a good headset to use with AFS4.

... if I would be thinking on buying my first headset, I would wait a little for it.
