Having trouble using user-made aircraft on mac

  • Hi, I have tried to install a few user addons from different sites, and none of them have appeared in my aircraft menu. I am using macOS and dragged the folder with the user aircraft to the "aircraft" folder in resources. I also tried moving the user aircraft to the "aircraft preview" folder. I'm wondering if these aircraft work on macOS or if I need to put them in a different folder?

    Thank you,

    Clayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • I think it makes sense with the Mac to always include the path name, because it makes it easier to help.

Content from third-party providers should always be stored in the user directory, with the STEAM version this is e.g. here:

    • '/Users/user/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4'

There, aircraft can then be stored in two different folders, whereby for me this has proven itself:

    • Variants and supplements that already exist in the FS 4:
      '/Users/user/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/aircraft'
    • Third-party aircraft:
      '/Users/01user/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/addons/aircraft'

    Configurations:

    - MacBook Pro (16", 2024); Chip: Apple M4 Max; actual macOS
    - Controllers: | WinWing: URSA MINOR-Fighter-Joystick R, EFIS-L & FCU & EFIS-R | Thrustmaster TCA AIRBUS EDITION: 2x Quadrant, 2x Quadrant Add-On | Pro-Flight-Trainer: PUMA X | Steelseries: Nimbus+

    - iPad (12,9", 4th Generation, RAM: 6 GB); actual iOS | Steelseries: Nimbus+

  • I downloaded the app from the App Store. I tried moving the addon to '/Users/user/Library/Containers/com.aerofly.aerofly-fs-4-mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/addons/aircraft/j3cub-main' (j3cub-main is the addon I'm trying to install.) The app still launches, but the aircraft doesn't appear.

  • You can move the USER folder, but then you have to enter it in the main.mcf (https://www.aerofly.com/dokuwiki/doku.php/simulator:mcf?s[]=main&s[]=mcf#user_defined_scenery_folder).

Here is a description of how to find the automatically created USER folder on a Mac:

  • I downloaded the app from the App Store. I tried moving the addon to '/Users/user/Library/Containers/com.aerofly.aerofly-fs-4-mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/addons/aircraft/j3cub-main' (j3cub-main is the addon I'm trying to install.) The app still launches, but the aircraft doesn't appear.

Don't move it into the game folder, move it into the user folder, which I think is ~Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/aircraft

Also, the folder j3cub-main should not end with "-main", it should be a folder that is named exactly like the *.tmc and *.tmd file inside of the folder. So probably "j3cub". I'm guessing that this is an artifact from the github download. Also check that there is no nested subfolder, the path has to be "/aircraft/j3cub/j3cub.tmd" for the aircraft to work.

  • Sorry to keep bothering,

I fixed the folder name to match the .tmd filename

The path for the .TMD file also seems to be correct. '/Users/username/Library/Containers/com.aerofly.aerofly-fs-4-mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/addons/aircraft/j3cub/j3cub.tmd'

I also checked the tutorial website. I searched for a file without the /Containers/com.aerofly.aerofly-fs-4-mac/ and none exists.

I don't think it's an issue with the mod itself, as I tried a few of the more reputable ones and they didn't work either.

Please bear with me because I'm not super familiar with modding on Mac.

  • Here's how the correct path names for the Mac versions are:
