I know how to operate the 737s but i have a problem with the 777 and 787. when i fly ils it always seems to just stop listening to the route even tho loc and app mode is enabled. this is where it just kept going forward

LOC and APP mode disable the route mode when they engage by design, that is correct. The only time you press LOC or APP is usually when you are intercepting the ILS localizer on the final approach segment. That's when the imprecise GPS navigation is no longer desired and the autopilot is switched to the high precision approach mode to enable auto-land. If you want to follow the route then don't arm LOC or APP which don't follow the route but follow signals from tuned navigation stations.
