I totally love AeroFly FS on Switch docked mode. Actually, I cancelled my PS5 pre-order of MSFS 2024 last week after experiencing horrific bugs in the beta (could not finish 60% of flights due to bugs, this is nowhere near a finished product) and purchased AFFS for Switch instead and it is great for casual flying. Also runs like butter on Switch 2 even without any update, I am really hoping for an update that could even improve things like resolution which is okayish for now.
But I have some suggestions or requests.
First, I would really love to be able to control cockpit gear when in TV mode. On Switch, this is currently only possible via touch screen but that is not available when docked. This might be quite a big feature for relatively small platform I guess, this is why I have an alternative request.
What I liked about MSFS2024 on PS5 was that they had button combinations, typically shoulder buttons (L/R on Switch) could be combined with other buttons to achieve various things. I would love these to be mapped this way, instead of L for Fav Views and R for View Selection, these could be mapped as "modifier" keys just like Control/Alt/Shift on keyboard. Then other buttons could be used, ideas: elevator/rudder trim, fuel mixture, prop pitch, open/hide map and ability to tune nearest radio beams with OBS/radial for IFR, that would be really a huge step up. Obviously, controller is not enough for airliners (MCDU/FMS) operations but IFR in GA would be super nice. And finally, changing views would need to be moved to some button combinations since L/R buttons would be occupied as modifiers now.
I have to say, the way the current mapping is done is extremely good, I like how parking brake works (hold breaks and it will lock, increase thrust it will release). The same for spoilers (decrease throttle to 0 and keep pushing back) and autopilot is also very good thought (hold, route, land). One thing that is bugging me is the B button being mapped to "exit to menu" this is wasteful, I feel like there could be another functionality mapped to it and exiting could be just via minus/plus buttons. I think one of these buttons gets you to very limited menu, instead, this could lead to the main menu where settings are available if needed. One typically need to change settings few times and then it is done.
Auto trim seems to be broken, when I turn it off the sim still performs auto trim (elevator), there is no way of turning it off. Maybe this was decided because there was no way to change the trim on the controller, but with button combinations this could be possible now. I believe, this should not be too hard to implement and can be done via an alternative gamepad layout, there are already two. And finally, SteamDeck / SteamOS and PC controller users would benefit from this as well.
Also, gyro controls for looking around and high-res texture streaming would be a dream, granted, unlikely to be implemented. This is very niché or problematic (subscription on Nintendo not possible).
Anyway, I am super excited for Switch 2 update, the game already looks great. ![]()
