Idea for Clouds at night

  • Hey,

as we all know the clouds in AF looks strangely bright white at nights. It only looks kinda real if you set the visibility very low. But than you cannot see city lights far away anymore.

    I was thinking of this:

IPACS just added these two newer sliders in the graphics menu to lighten up colors at night or cockpit at daytimes.

Would it be possible to implement a slider for “darken clouds at night” in the weather menu?

This would really be cool. :)

    And in terms of contrails:

The clouds actually are just pictures as we also know and not really 3D. Would it be possible to simulate contrails just with a lot of tiny little clouds a bit behind the engines/plane? You know what I mean?

  • I agree with this overall.

The clouds at night do look unnaturally bright, and reducing visibility isn’t really a good solution since it removes distant city lights.

Instead of a manual “darken clouds” slider, it would be really nice if cloud brightness naturally adjusted with time of day, similar to how overall lighting already transitions from day to night. That would keep things realistic while avoiding extra user tweaking.

The contrails idea also makes sense, even a simple visual approximation using small cloud elements behind the engines could add a lot to immersion.

  • Also, that slider to set clouds darkness would make it better for simulating "rainy" and cloudy days better!
