Feature Request: Engine Fan Blur at High N1/TOGA

  • Hello IPACS Team,

First, thank you for the excellent work on Aerofly FS. I haven’t seen anyone mention this in the thread and I hope I’m not wrong otherwise I apologize in advance.

I’d like to suggest a small visual improvement for engine fan animation. At TOGA or high N1, the engine fan blades remain clearly visible while spinning. In real aircraft at these RPM levels, the blades appear as a smooth blur/disc. Adjusting the animation to transition into a realistic blur at high power would improve immersion. I’ve attached an image comparison for reference, in case this is already planned for a future update.

    Kind regards,

    Noah VW

  • I think the rotation effect is very good now, and it is meaningless for developers to spend a lot of time on it. The fan blades of some aircraft engines of Infinite Flight use two different models when rotating at low speed and when rotating at high speed. Now the transition between them is very strange. I don't want this to happen in Aerofly.

  • Yes, those are the fundamental differences between simulation and the real world. You simply can't replicate everything 100% in a simulation.

I hear you, and I agree that sims have limits. I’m not looking for 100% perfection, just a better visual trick.

Most sims use a blur disk—basically a transparent circular texture that turns on at high speeds. It’s actually a common shortcut that is easier for the computer to draw than individual spinning blades. Aerofly already does this with their propeller planes, so I just thought it would just be great to see that same effect brought over to the jet engines.

  • Keep in mind that the blur is an artifact of the camera shutter speed... Depending on the shutter speed you can achieve both images with rotating engines...

That’s a great point about shutter speed. I totally didn’t think about it from that perspective. Since the props in Aerofly already have that nice blurred-disk effect, would it be possible to add a toggle or an option for visual motion blur on the jet fans too? It would really help sell the power of the engines at TOGA.
