• Is the Steam version around 220GB? I don't remember it being that big. Would that include the additional Europe 1 & 2 + America? From memory, I installed those separately. Am trying to decide the best drive to use for FS4, I have a huge amount of scenery addons to reinstall afterwards, I pretty much had all the major downloads from flightsim.org.

Am also thinking of putting steam on the root drive away from my primary M.2 drive; D:\Steam for example, i cant think of a reason that would be bad, but best to check.

  • One thing to add, perhaps unimportant to some, is that without the Europe 1 DLC, one airfield (EDGM) won't install. I have no idea why; I've never received a response from IPACS.

However, there is a workaround: you can temporarily install Europe 1, then copy that airfield to Documents\Scenery\Airports\de\edgm. Afterward, revert to uninstalling Europe 1.

This was just one example; there may be other affected airfields. Worth seeing...

  • The gc-map.mcf is a text file and can therefore be edited with a text editor.

In comparable cases, I do it in such a way that I first create a backup copy of the gc-map.mcf. Then I look at the data in the gc-map.mcf, possibly reset all controllers and see what happens then etc.

An example is my controller for helicopter. It was easier and faster for me to make the fine-tuning directly in the gc-map.mcf than via the FS 4 menu. I have also saved these values as a backup and can insert them back into a gc-map.mcf at any time.

    - MacBook Pro (16", 2024); Chip: Apple M4 Max; actual macOS
    - Controllers: | WinWing: URSA MINOR-Fighter-Joystick R, EFIS-L & FCU & EFIS-R | Thrustmaster TCA AIRBUS EDITION: 2x Quadrant, 2x Quadrant Add-On | Pro-Flight-Trainer: PUMA X | Steelseries: Nimbus+

    - iPad (12,9", 4th Generation, RAM: 6 GB); actual iOS | Steelseries: Nimbus+

  • Thanks, Michael, yes I checked the contents before posting. I thought my method would be simple, I backed everything up from my old install, made sure a clean version of FS4 is running correctly on the new version of Win11, tested VR is working. Now I am copying scenery back and all my tweaks. I copied that gc-map file back into the correct user documents, none of my bindings came through.

I can remap, just a pain in the rear, since my voice control mod needs exact bindings, so will have to go back through each 1 by 1

That Windows update really messed things up for me, I couldn't even roll back to a working state :(

  • I'm not on the PC right now, but from memory it should be enough if you copy the old content into the new gc-map.mcf and then only customise the controller IDs.

  • Yes, disable the DLCs and enable global streaming. But sometimes you have to disable that too, especially if you have some of my stuff that was originally for FS2. In FS4, IPACS images at airports sometimes mess up my scenery. And sometimes I still have IPACS images at airports even though I've manually deleted everything from IPACS AND global streaming was disabled. It makes me wonder: Where else are the IPACS airport images hiding? A tragic example: My Hamburg scenery; Airbus area. An absolute disaster. I can do whatever I want, but it still doesn't work.
