• How am I supposed to adjust the mixture levers in the Baron B58

Ive been looking all over the internet for a guide on how to do this without the POH and even then I am trying to find a B58 POH but I don’t even know if that will exactly apply to aerofly FS.

From what I can gather, I’m supposed to pull the mixture and watch the EGT gauge (the one to the right of CHT) and pull the mixture knob until the EGT peaks. What I dont get is how long am I supposed to wait for the EGT to rise? Does it happen quickly? When I try this it doesn’t seem to move. Is it not really a feature in the game or am I not doing it slowly enough?

  • I found this on Apfel Flieger's POH link:

“LEANING USING THE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE

    INDICATOR (EGT)

The system consists of a thermocouple type exhaust gas

temperature (EGT) probe mounted in the right side of each

exhaust system. This probe is connected to an indicator on

the right side of the instrument panel. The indicator is cali-

brated in degrees Fahrenheit. Use EGT system to lean the

fuel/air mixture when cruising at maximum cruise power or

    less.

    1. Lean the mixture and note the point on the indicator

that the temperature peaks and starts to fall.

    a. CRUISE (LEAN) MIXTURE - Increase the mixture

until the EGT shows a drop of 25°F below peak on

    the rich side of peak.

    b. BEST POWER MIXTURE - Increase the mixture

until the EGT shows a drop of 100°F below peak on

    the rich side of peak.

    CAUTION

Do not continue to lean mixture beyond that

    necessary to establish peak temperature.

    2. Continuous operation is recommended at 25°F or more

below peak EGT only on the rich side of peak.

    3. Changes in altitude and power settings require the peak

EGT to be rechecked and the mixture reset.”

But it seems in the simulator, only the fuel flow value changes, not the EGT.

  • At 400 feet above take off pull the throttles back to a bit below 24" and the props to a bit above 2400 rpm, mixture to 13-14 gals/hr. Ordinary cruise would be about 21"-22" with about 2,200-2,250 rpm, mixture lever can be left unchanged. The Baron is powerful and people who fly them have no shortage of money so simulate burning a lot of fuel. The big engines are run at slightly lower than typical manifold pressures paired with slightly higher than typical rpms so use 21.5" with 2,250 rpm as a cruise example. In real life allow about 15 seconds for an EGT needle position change after a minor mixture lever adjustment.

The climb mixture would be occasionally verified with EGT gauge behaviour, staying well on the rich side. Routinely the preset fuel flow gauge numbers are used to get the job done quickly without undue distraction at a critical phase of flight,

The Aero environment does not simulate leaning at altitude.
