Automatic pedal movement

  • I noticed something while flying the helicopters.

Whenever I increase or decrease the collective, I can see the helicopter’s pedal moving automatically, even though all assistance options are disabled in my settings.

It seems like there is some kind of automatic torque compensation or yaw stabilization happening in the background.

Would it be possible to add an option to fully disable this automatic pedal compensation for a more manual experience?

I really enjoy the helicopter flight model.

  • Are you using mobile or desktop? Which helicopter are you flying because the EC135 and UH60 do have some form of stability augmentation / fly by wire.

I’m using mobile, and I’m flying the R22.

That’s why I was a bit confused, since the R22 doesn’t have stability augmentation or fly-by-wire in real life. However, I still notice that the pedals move automatically when I change the collective, even with all assistance options disabled.

  • On mobile the tail rotor assistance is always on because it would be too difficult to control otherwise. On desktop you have the option to enable or disable this where you can have more precise controls.

I use the pedals separately on-screen, not via gyroscope, and I would really like an option to disable this assistance entirely for more manual control, even on mobile. This would let me practice proper yaw coordination while keeping full control over the pedals.

  • I haven't used the 135 for about a year or more so I've forgotten that control, did it feature in the forum posts back then? I tried it in PC with throttle and collective axes, it was a lot more work. I know it is explained on the blog/guides or whatever they are called now.

I've an ancient Saitek AV8R twin throttle joystick and I'm dreading having to replace it sometime. I have collective on the left and throttle on the right, I must connect my pedals at some point. I change hands over for a helicopter, makes the brain recalibrate8o

  • Boy am I slow, just saw the centre console buttons lit up, I thought it was just a throttle governor. My memory recollection is definitely a few chips short. The 135 seems a bit tamer in mobile with the assistance turned off or perhaps the initial P.C. wildness caught me off guard.
In P.C. rudder/anti-torque trim can be added in easily via keyboard presses so that the P.C. ‘expert mode’ R-22 option isn’t a permanent twist grip struggle. I worked that out fairly recently 🤡.
With power added it still climbs left and power reduction pitches down and right. (Would the Kamov you fly be neutral?)

I suppose the joystick’s coolie hat switch is the place for trim but it is so nice for view panning.

  • Yes, the torques of the coaxial rotors balance each other, little “legwork” is required. It does not tilt sideways during flight and is less sensitive to crosswinds. In return, the rotor control is more complicated. It is said that its creator received the Lenin Peace Prize for it...

    I’m on iOS.
