Assistance requested: Elevation data conversion (.tif to .tth) for LFPG (macOS user)

  • Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to this knowledgeable community because I have run into a technical roadblock that I cannot overcome on my own, as I am a macOS user.

I am currently in need of a scenery elevation file for LFPG for Aerofly FS 4. My goal is to implement accurate elevation data for the airport and its surroundings to ensure the best possible simulation experience.

I have already processed the source data and prepared a GeoTIFF file (WGS 84 / EPSG:4326) using COP30 data from OpenTopography. However, since the Scenery SDK (specifically map_convert.exe) and AeroScenery are Windows-exclusive, I am unable to compile the final .tth files on my system. I have tried several workarounds, but unfortunately, I haven't been successful.

    My Request:
Would someone with a working SDK or AeroScenery setup be kind enough to convert my GeoTIFF file into the Aerofly .tth format and share the output files with me?

    File Details:

    • Source: GeoTIFF (Elevation data)
    • Area: LFPG Airport
    • Attachments: Please find the files attached below

Steps for the conversion (for anyone willing to help):

    1. Download the attached .zip containing the .tif file. (I have attached two .zip files)
    2. Run the file through the map_convert.exe tool using the -tt (terrain) flag, or via the Elevation tab in AeroScenery.
    3. Kindly send the resulting folder containing the .tth files back to me, preferably in a zip file. (via this post or via PM)

I truly appreciate the incredible work this community does to keep Aerofly growing. This elevation data is the final piece I need to make LFPG look correct, and I would be deeply grateful for any assistance you can provide.

  • Hello

I took a quick look at your file.

Basically, the coverage is much too small, and unlike FS2, masked elevation data does not work on FS4.
Therefore, the GeoTIFF must cover at least a tile size of 10 or higher, means that the entire area will be overridden with your mesh (maph_10_####_####.tth files are needed for FS4). I think it's not possible to make only the airport area in FS4 for existing airports.

I have also noticed that your GeoTIFF is unprocessed and has elevation peaks of over 30 meters on the airport ground where there are larger buildings/hangars (white spots). The result will therefore not be satisfactory and will require manual post-processing of the GeoTIFF.

It is also necessary to create *.aid and *.tmc files in addition to the GeoTIFF for conversion, which contain the coordinates of the GeoTIFF and Tile as well as the compile level of 10 (level 11 in addition for higher mesh resolution than 30m).

Using my AeroScenery MOD, elevation can be done quickly without any editing using a.o. COP30 data from OpenTopography. Adjustments are taking much more time.

Contact me via direct chat, and I'll see what I can do when I get back.
