It should say when you select an approach. Let’s say I selected runway 27 for landing. It should say (RNAV 27 or ILS 27)
When selecting an approach in the navigation menu or in the FMS use one that is labeled "RNAV".

What do I need to do with the altitude setting on the autopilot panel? It seems like i need to set it to an altitude but I dont really understand what I should be doing so I set it to the runway altitude and disengage autopilot at 200 feet callout to finish landing. The autopilot doesnt disengage automatically before you land is that normal? It just sorta crashes the plane. I expected it to disengage at 200 feet
When the approach vertical profile is captured the selected altitude is disregarded. Once the path is captured set the selected altitude to the target go-around altitude. The autopilot then needs to be disengaged manually at the decision height or minimum certified height for the autopilot (e.g. 100ft above ground). Only the more advanced autopilot can land the aircraft but this requires an ILS not an RNAV approach. The more basic AP could crash into the ground, yes. It's not designed to be used at low altitude.
