Weird physics behavior

I’ve noticed that on several different occasions that the planes tend to get boosted up randomly while doing an approach. I don’t know if it has something to do with the thermal activity. Nevertheless, it feels very unrealistic

I think that was a thermal that was way too strong. Try setting thermal activity to zero.

But is that realistic in any matter? Does thermal activity have such an impact on a 777 like that?

Am not claiming any desktop sim can accurately simulate real world extreme weather conditions, but have a read about what thermals did to a Emirates 777 landing in Dubai. The aircraft was destroyed, and a fire fighter was killed in an explosion. They completely lost control of the aircraft.

Well, not the best example though. The only reason they crashed was because of the extreme heats resulting to minimal lift as well as throttle to zero percent.

I think you need to reread the first line of my post.

The rest, I was explaining that thermals can have an adverse affect, in the case of that 777, it was a thermal updraft, and the flight crew handled the situation incorrectly.

Anyway, as the devs have stated, make sure its not set too high in the sim

The thermals can be too strong in Aerofly closer to the equator. But yes, thermals can affect the approach in the real world and destabilize it.

To my knowledge the B777 crash in Dubai was not caused by a thermal, it was wind shear coupled with the thrust mode going to idle and the pilots either didn't push the toga switch or the auto throttle didn't do it as commanded. They basically flew a go around with idle thrust.

Interesting, all the online discussions mention thermals, but a read of the report here does say they incorrectly thought it was thermals -
