Flex setting for takeoff

  • Hi IPACS team,

I noticed something interesting today in Aerofly FS Global. Previously, even if I manually changed the FLEX temperature on the Airbus A320neo, the aircraft still seemed to use the simulator’s automatically determined FLEX thrust during takeoff. But today, during departure with the A320neo, it actually appeared to use the FLEX temperature that I manually entered. The takeoff thrust behavior seemed different and matched my selected FLEX value. Was this feature recently added or changed in an update? If so, it’s a really nice improvement for realism.

  • No, we haven't changed it. But the takeoff performance depends on the takeoff runway.

In the settings the assistance for FMS is responsible for this, you can turn it off in the settings. If you use the copilot for takeoff it is always active and may change the entered flexible takeoff temperature.

I noticed something interesting regarding FLEX temperature behavior across the Airbus A320 family aircraft in Aerofly FS Global.

It seems that after the engines are started, the entered FLEX temperature sometimes changes automatically. For example, I may enter FLEX 60 in the MCDU, but after engine start the aircraft shows a different value such as FLEX 80 on the PFD/FMA during takeoff. I tested this multiple times and it appears that the FLEX value may be recalculated or overridden after engine startup. Is this intended behavior related to FMS assistance or takeoff performance calculations, or could it be a bug? Additionally, I noticed another issue affecting the A320 family aircraft: after arrival at the gate, the parking brakes sometimes do not seem to work properly once the aircraft is parked.

    Thank you.

  • The performance data is indeed entered automatically after engine start if you haven't done so yet. The assistance should only do this when it's enabled though, is that not the case here? Then I'll have to investigate why.

All aids except navigation and pressurization are switched off. I manually enter the performance values before starting the engine. Only the Flex value changes when the engine starts. The problem is resolved when I readjust the flex value.

  • What aircraft are you using and what is your takeoff runway and wind condition?

Please also provide us with more details about what system you are using.

Problem: The Flex setting changes automatically when the pushback device is connected to the aircraft.

Device: İpad air M3 and Redmi Note 13 Pro+

    Airport: It doesn't matter.

    Wind: It doesn't matter.

Aircraft: Any aircraft from the A320 family.

Note: I haven't tested this on Boeing aircraft.

  • I can confirm this.
happens 100% of times, any airport. as soon as you engage the pushback, the flex is reset to automatic, despite already been inserted by the pilot previously.
if a startup is done (without pushback) the flex value inserted manually is correctly kept. it seems the pushback is what triggers the reset.
but after the pushback is terminated you can re-insert flex manually and it stays correctly after that.
