First experience with Aerofly RC

  • Hi! just wanted to share with Aerofly FS community that I am installing Aerofly RC now.

I was looking for new experiences in flight simulation, and since the great experience I have had and trust with IPACS products I ordered the complete Aerofly RC package from Steam.

Did you know that it has it own website? I just discovered it: Aerofly RC website

Very excited to test in VR. I will only use it with my Xbox controller for now, but maybe I will buy an RC USB controller in the future.

Will come back soon! meanwhile I wish you all great flights.

    Best regards, Juan

  • Hi Jan, thanks. My setup is: Windows 11, Steam version, Meta Quest 3 connected wireless using Virtual Desktop, using SteamVR.

When I open Aerfoly RC from Steam I select open with SteamVR and the menu opens well in the VR environment, similar to Aerofly FS.

But when I press Fly Now, the VR image becomes completely black, but I can hear the sound of the engine, and the Aerofly RC window in the PC becomes also black.

Any recommendation to use it in VR? thanks!

It is exactly the same procedure I do in Aerofly FS that works fine.

    Best regards, Juan

  • Well, no VR for now but I am super well impressed. I run it at 120fps and works very fluid. It is very fun! I feel like a child playing with my small aircrafts. Well done IPACS team! happy to fly now the big and small birds, I will have a lot of fun with them.

    Best regards, Juan

Changed the title of the thread from “Using Xbox controller with Aerofly RC” to “First experience with Aerofly RC”.

Using Virtual Desktop with SteamVR often find I need to press Alt+Tab after starting up a game/sim in order to Focus the game properly. Also, you may want to try starting up using the recommended Virtual Desktop Game tab, esp. if you find that controllers don't work properly. Flying in VR is just sooo much more fun. I use a Spectrum Interlink DX usb controller and this works great. I use it for all my sims (flight and racing), and I think it's much better than using my good old Xbox s wireless controller. Cheers.

  • I tried a lot of things and parameters changes, also with Meta software, but nothing makes me see the VR world, only I can see the menu in VR and when I hit Play Now the screen turn black and only hear the sound.

Doesn’t care a lot, I think I prefer to play it in the flat monitor anyway, the graphics looks excellent there.

  • Sorry you still can't get it working in VR mate. Maybe your graphics settings are too high? They need to be a lot lower than your 2D settings. Anyway, lots of us have no problem using this in VR, so hopefully you'll get this sorted out in the future. Good luck mate and cheers.

  • Thanks Tom, is the same problem described here, I suspect it is some drivers issue, I hope support is trying to solve it (in my case, it only happens in VR).

  • Ok, now that I rolled back to old stable release, VR is working. I am not used to move with the VR headset, so feel a little sick, but I will get used to it.

It is fun, but noticed some ghosting in the MQ3 with 72Hz, I will try next time use it at the maximum refresh rate. Meanwhile, I still prefer using it in my monitor.

Ghosting can be caused by too low a framerate and/or too low refresh rate (I use 80Hz). Display the fps window while playing to make sure your framerate fps is equal to your refresh rate (80fps.80Hz in my case). If your framerate fps is too low, you'll need to lower some graphics settings. Cheers.
