Suggestion: Adding a Passenger Category to the Fuel & Weight Menu

  • Hello,

    I would like to make a suggestion for a future update. Would it be possible to add a Passenger category to the Fuel & Weight menu, allowing users to simply select the number of passengers, with the total weight being automatically calculated based on that?

    This way, we would have three categories: fuel, cargo, and passengers.

  • With the C130H I found these values in the regulations:

    • Crew: 92 kg/Pax
    • Passenger: 100 kg/Pax
    • Ground Troop: 109 kg/Pax
    • Para Troop: 118 kg/Pax

    FS 4 shows for the C172

    • Pilot: 70 kg/Pax


    I would like a subdivision into the categories FUEL, CARGO, COCKPIT CREW and PASSENGER (Cabin Crew and Passengers).

    I attach the system.tmd from the payload subfolder of the c130. This file is exclusively about PAYLOAD, both in the DynamicObjects and GraphicObjects. The TMD represents the regulation "CSTO XX1C-130E-4 -- TECHNICAL MANUAL -- BASIC WEIGHT CHECKLISTS AND LOADING MANUAL -- C-130H". It is deliberately so detailed to be able to map shifts when jumping from Paratroops or AirDrop later. But it does not always have to be played individually, because alternatively these can also be summarized.

  • Obviously my aircraft parser will have to learn some new tricks.

    To understand FUEL&LOAD, manageable aircraft are:

    • The easiest is the Antares 21E, because there is 1 pilot, some luggage and some fuel (as ballast water simulation:)).
    • Slightly more extensive is the C172S with multiple seats and luggage rooms.

    The basic principle is always the same:

    • In the aircraft.tmc, which is read in when selecting the aircraft, are the key data MTOW, GW, ZFW.
    • In the aircraft.tmd are the placeholders with preset values for FUEL&LOAD, which are then virtually overwritten by the sliders (the aircraft.tmd is not changed).

  • Here is my take on the issue (screenshot showing a Cessna 172):

    1. Start with adding fuel - this sets the maximum available amount of persons and payload.
      1. Persons is capped at the maximum number of allowed persons on board or the available payload considering the current fuel load.
      2. Payload is capped at the maximum allowed payload or the available payload considering the current fuel load.
      3. Available payload is calculated by considering the current fuel load, e.g. filling up your tank to 100% may leave you with less payload or persons than the potential respective maximum.
    2. On adding persons, the maximum payload gets reduced by the weight of the passengers.
    3. Writing back to the simulator, (persons * 84kg + payload) get converted to a total payload. The simulator does not know anything about persons as of now.

    Obviously this approach is still a rough estimate, not considering children or paratroopers, but for starters it gives a hint on what to load into your aircraft. It is quite interesting to see how commercial airliners and the seating they offer sometimes conflict with other fuel / payload requirements.

  • As in real life, the MTOW (actually MTOM) may not be exceeded. In the example of the A320, it must be decided in the situation shown whether the range is sufficient - or payload must be discharged in favor of fuel.

    For the aircraft, it also does not depend on what weight is made of, but only how high it is and where the point of impact is. Therefore, the two sliders for the simulation are also sufficient.

    However, I would also like to have divided the PAYLOAD slider into LOAD and PERSON, and PERSON again into NUMBER and WEIGHT. That would make it more understandable for me when setting. For the function of the simulation, however, this is unimportant, because the general summary is sufficient.
